The leading trainer at the Meadowlands Racetrack for the past two years is suing to lift his ban from the 2012 meet, which begins today under new operator Jeff Gural.

Top Meadowlands trainer with court setback

Lou Pena — the leading trainer at the Meadowlands Racetrack for the last two years — was unsuccessful in his bid to obtain a preliminary injunction preventing Gural from banning Pena from the track. Gural did not offer Pena a reason for the ban, but in court documents Gural referred to “no less than 15 infractions” by various horse racing boards alleging improper conduct.
