That's the problem with short hair. I told my stylist I wanted him to come up with a style this winter so I could go 3-4 months without a cut! He didn't seem enthused. But, whatever. It's not like I leave the house in the winter, anyway.

A new salon opened up in my area earlier this year. Vietnamese owners - husband wife, 2 daughters, owner's sister and her 2 daughters.

I tried them out for a manicure and pedicure and then went back for eybrow and leg waxing. I saw the owner cutting another customer's hair and was impressed with the method and patience he exhibited in his work. So I decided to let him cut my hair. When he was through, he asked if I was pleased. I was - extremely so. So he took a photo face on, left side, right side, and back and put it in "my file". When I went back today, he pulled out "my file" and asked if I wanted my hair cut the same way?

That's a very caring professional who takes pride in his work, in my opinion. AND, he charges $18 for a haircut.

Zensational was victim of a very peculiar ride. Why in the world did he take him back?!?!? You're on one of the fastest horses in the world-- you don't fix what ain't broke. Let 'em beat you doing what you do best.

I wouldn't have been the least bit surprised for Zensational to have been beaten had he done his usual thing, as horses do sometimes spit out the bit when challenged or bounced around in a big field for the first time. But dang, I sure didn't foresee the race unfolding the way it did.

mariasmon
11-08-2009, 06:14 PM
All I can think is that Espinoza was taken out of his game when the horse broke poorly and was quickly shut out of any forwardly-placed position. Granted, VE is an experienced jock, who should've had Plan B ready and executed it. But, that's the main reason I thought the pp might've made the difference, as he might've still been able to get near the front of the pack if they hadn't been in the 1 hole.

Neural Plasticity is such an awesome concept. I love dealing with anything about it because it's fascinating. Our brain is capable of so much, and we don't even know the half of it yet, which is an amazing thought in itself.

But then again, I'm such a dork that I was excited to experience sleep paralysis for the first time a few weeks ago  I guess people are starting to catch on though, because neuroscience is the most rapidly-growing scientific field out there. I'm hoping to go into linguistic neuroscience, which is another awesome topic. The things little kid brains are capable of accomplishing when it comes to language!

Sleep paralysis is freaky stuff... it happened to me a bunch of times a few years ago. Not an experience I want to repeat. Hopefully you get into all the classes you want.

Neuroscience is completely beyond me, but I wanted to thank y'all for bringing up sleep paralysis. I've had it quite a bit, and it's absolutely terrifying. I'm glad to know that it's actually a medical condition and not just a freak thing I've had going on.

I'm glad to know that it's actually a medical condition and not just a freak thing I've had going on. :laugh:It's not freaky at all! Well it can be to experience, but it's not unusual  What happens is, your body paralyzes itself during sleep to prevent you from acting out dreams. But if the signals get a bit mixed up, you can end up waking up before the paralysis is terminated.. and sometimes your brain is still dreaming a bit, which is the cause of the super-realistic hallucinations. So next time it happens, just remember that your brain is having some communication issues... it happens to the best of us

And thanks Som! It's looking highly unlikely though, my class is more than half filled up and only the seniors have registered  Maybe for the best though, I can't imagine taking a neuro lab on top of organic chemistry, yuck.

So, maybe you girls can help me out with this. Since I posted that about the sleep paralysis, it's gotten a lot worse. Last night was bad - I slept soundly for about 5 hours, then was up every 30 minutes fighting with the hallucinations. I think I was getting really angry at one point and tried to scream at something, but I don't know if I actually did or not. Is there anything that I can do about it? It's not so terrifying, just more annoying than anything.

Wow, that's awful! And not something I've ever really heard of, unfortunately. I think I've read that sleeping on your back can lead to it more often than other positions, and it's really important to establish a consistent sleep cycle. The one time I experienced sleep paralysis was during a nap, and I try to avoid naps because they really mess with my sleep schedule. You know what works best for you, maybe try going to bed at the same time every night, if you don't already? Good luck, I hope you start feeling better soon!

I'm not usually picky about bedtime, but I will keep that in mind. Last night I tried sleeping with my bedside lamp on, which definitely helped. I was still rolling over every 30 minutes, but I was at least awake rather than paralyzed. I think I'll try a nightlight tonight and see if that's a happy medium.

If you're still having problems with it by Monday, let me know and if you want I'll ask my professor about it. I don't know much about it other than it sucks to have, but maybe she'll have a better solution.

I know the web-site I posted mentions some of these, but as someone who suffers from sleep deficit (total different than SP), it's worth mentioning.

It would be good for you to evaluate your going to sleep patterns and if they indeed do follow a pattern.

Is your mattress, pillow, and bedding of good quality. Sleeping in a cooler room helps sleep. Eating or watching tv in bed before you try to go to sleep can be a factor. Not gearing down before going to bed can be a factor. This very well may cause you to be tense as you try to go to sleep and remain tense once asleep. Going to bed at different times every night can be a factor.

I really don't know if any of these contribute to your sleep problem. But they are questions you can ask yourself and experiment around with them to see if a change in any of these patterns might help. I know that when I stay away from the no no's listed above, I sleep a lot better, a lot sounder, and wake up with a lot less stress.

Loss of sleep or problems with sleeping can lead to a bunch of problems. Hope you're able to find a solution, SBD.

I'm honestly just so pissed with it. I transferred into a program that I can ONLY enter in the fall, but I'm not going to make up everything I need in time, so I think I'm going to be stuck here another year for no reason. I'm thinking I'm just going to double major at this point because I'm not wasting my time here. It's just so stupid, I guess the only good thing is that prior to this year I never took out a student loan.

I went from wanting a PhD in Psychology to getting a BS in Health Sciences and a BA/BS in something else. Man plans, God laughs.

Organic Chem? Ew. I used to leaf through my friend's textbook when she took it, it looked horrible. Memory and Cognition sounds fun though.

I'm takingggg: Philosophical Psychology (What in the world??), Environmental Geology, Technological Trends in Society (What in the world? x2), Intro to the Solar System, and Revolutionary China (also What in the world?). Yay! This is basically a make up semester of everything I need to fill the general education requirements. I wanted to take Anatomy & Physiology so at least I could do something towards my major, but they don't offer it. How do you not offer anatomy every semester.

Philosophical Psychology... I can't even imagine a syllabus for that course  But I avoid philosophy like the plague. Geology is always fun though, and the solar system class sounds interesting. I think we only have physiology in the spring... and it's the most difficult course in the science department, thank goodness it's not a requirement.

The CDC says it's okay to give them both at the same time, but some doctors don't because in the event of a reaction they're dealing with two vaccines that might be causing it or one and not knowing which one. If you haven't experienced a reaction by now, you won't.

The vaccine may contain some egg protein. Ingredients for the flu vaccine are grown inside eggs.

I'm getting this information off the flu vaccine flyer that my doctor gave me.

Yeah, I got a flyer. And I actually read it, which is unusual for me. But there was no explanation about the egg thing, other than to say that people allergic to eggs should not get the vaccine. Thanks for the info! My curiosity has been put to rest

I said no to the H1N1 shot
Me too. Haha. They were giving it out at our high school, with the option of either shot or nasal spray. I got neither. They said the nasal spray was like shooting novacaine up your nose, and the shot was like injecting syrup into your blood. Gah.

Am watching this show on plastic surgery addicts. Two of these people have themselves convinced they look good/normal/natural, when they actually look totally freakish. This one guy is the male version of Joan Rivers, if not even worse.

Me, too. There are some days when my body is just one big pain all over - even my hair hurts. But, then, I'm old. Never had those problems at your ages - except maybe when it came to passing a kidney stone. Ouch!

Kidney stones are like trying to pass a bowling ball through your urinary tract, and as each minute goes by, the bowling ball gets bigger. You think you're going to die and you're afraid you're not going to. It's the most gawd awful pain anyone can ever go through.

Once the stone passes, you can't imagine how something that small could cause so much pain.

Wish some of those GB terrorists would have had them naturally - any secret they possessed could have easily been extracted from them during an attack. "And, ya don't get pain med until we verify the info."

I basically had an emotional breakdown today at work. Everything I hate most in life seemed to happen then, or earlier today. I then got pulled aside and a manager told me that she had "many complaints" about what I've said to people, and how I act. She told me to watch what I say, and how I say it next time.

That really didn't help. I truly thought I got along great with everyone there. I don't recall being mean or having an attitude at all at work.

When I got the job I told myself I need to be more outgoing and not as quiet as I am at school, or at home. And then this happens. I guess I am going to be more quiet, now.

Pretty sure UA has a better business program, but I'm pulling this stat from my brain from about 2-3 years ago so you might want to poke around to see if it's changed.

The summers aren't unbearable there, but everything is well air conditioned and if you're in outside complexes they have misters to keep you cool. Plus there's minimal humidity, and it rarely gets cold. Then again that's my own bias talking... I hate, hate snow and being cold.
