I figure someone has got to say it......OUCH!

When he backed up, he backed up. Failure to load last year and finishing dead last this year won't enchance his stallion advertising any.

Guess most figured he'd not get the distance anyhow but that was a real clunker.

Somehow I think he's been backing up since the Donn, but the horse I'm disappointed in is Haynesfield. Expectations being the ruler of perception.

I never thought he would get the distance well enough to win, but he neither had the lead nor did he improve while stalking .

He was done after 6f and that simply is not him.

A riding horse trainer watched the races with me and was impressed with his looks, but thought he looked a little wonky in a foreleg on the walkover to the paddock.

He was 29 lengths behind the winners. His chart says "close up along the inside, moved off the railon the second turn and stopped after six furlongs." This stable had a very extreme weekend.

Oh, baby.

I adore Quality Road, but he got screwed with the draw. I didn't anticipate him backing up that much, though. I thought he might get brave out there on the lead and be tough. Ironically, he DID cost Zenyatta some ground as Mike had to tap on the breaks when he stopped. I thought Haynesfield might have Life At Ten's Personal Ensign situation, and he did.

But man... poor Quality Road. I wanted all the horses to run their races and he sure didn't. Not that he wouldn't have necessarily gotten 10F, but backing up at 6F? Damn.

Nothing on the DRF web site explaining this performance.

Wonder if he bled?

Quality Road got screwed when he got shipped out of Mr Jerkins barn.

What could have been.

That whole pack of four that sprinted lengths and lenths ahead of the field all folded late, they knocked each other out as many thought they would do. I atcually thought they'd be smarter and agree to all slow it down and not go at each other, but that wasn't the case. He did back up worse than he ever did and I don't think was in his best form. But I still wonder how he would have done in the Dirt Mile. That's his best distance. He might have been spectacular in that race.

He could have been retired because of hoof issues instead of retired with a Met Mile and Woodward on his record?

It was a rough day for Quality Road, and it's truly perplexing. There's a big difference between getting beat and coming up empty. This is a horse that's been beaten before, but this is the first time he showed absolutely nothing. You have to wonder what went wrong, because it's seemingly more than "he wasn't good enough." He had a great career though. On his best days, he was a brilliant performer.

None of the front-running horses ended the race well. They used up everything early.

Maybe QR got treated with the same batch of Lasix that felled Life At Ten! :(

I'm beginning to wonder if Pletcher's cursed. I mean, Lookin At Lucky was unlucky all year, but that's a totally different kind of down.

Maybe it's the Draynay curse. Draynay picked Life At Ten and Quality Road to win each of their Classics... the only one he didn't pick was Uncle Mo. :bounce:

I didn't think Quality Road looked good in the post parade.

He had this "I'd rather be getting my teeth floated" look about him. Couldn't see anything notably physically wrong but he just seemed dull.

He was just eased out of it. I don't know if his feet acted up. I guess we'll find out.

By backing up into Zenyatta he did beat her in his own way.

Johnny said he hated the track and was just spinning his wheels. He stepped right in front of us (on the clubhouse turn) and jogged back OK. Physically, he's fine.

He's had some brilliant races but he's been inconsistent as well. He's had issues that have dogged him, and changed trainers. He's probably done as well as could be expected considering. Wonder how he'll be marketed as a stud.

It was too good to be true the silky way he eased into the start gate. They had the camera on Pletcher at that moment, and he didn't react at all - nada - kept his stone face on as if he were worrying about bigger things. Maybe he knew something was up with QR?

Possible, I suppose. But from what I've seen, that's pretty much the way Todd is. He generally doesn't let much show.

He was cooked when they drew the PPs. Like Big Brown, he can't run inside of horses. The dead rail didn't help. I tossed him.
