While checking for any progeny on Pedigree Query, I found a 2008 foal also by that name, by Mutakkdim! I know the rules do permit re-use but what's the time limit? It seems just yesterday PD # 1 retired!

As is often true, the info on Pedigree Query is wrong. The JC has no listing for a Pussycat Doll born in 2008.

Glad to hear it. That just seemed, disrespectful. :)

Actually, there is the original US-bred Pussycat Doll and four more that were bred in other countries.
The only way a name can not be re-used is if the horse is on the International Protected Names list (http://www.horseracingintfed.com/resources/NP_2010.pdf).

Here's and example, although "The" is missing:http://www.equineline.com/Free-5X-Pedigree.cfm?page_state=ORDER_AND_CONFIRM&reference_number=8504839®istry=T&horse_name==Green Monkey (ARG)&dam_name==Forty Dala (ARG)&foaling_year=2007&nicking_stats_indicator=Y And you can find same named horses in the QH racing world, I guess they feel it gives them luck:http://equibase.com/premium/eqbHorseInfo.cfm?refno=4174641®istry=QJust happened to be flipping thru the channels on day an nearly fell off the couch when I heard that one!

I know they use Thoroughbred names for Standardbreds all the time. One night I was laughing my rear off at a harness race between Foolish Pleasure and Rock Hard Ten.

There are two other Goldikova's, one born 05 in Australia and a 09 born in Uruguay.
There are two other Zenyatta's, one born 06 in Barbados and a 07 born in New Zealand, technically Zenyatta is the third horse to have that name, there was an 86 Peru mare and an 80 GB gelding.
