That's cheap, actually. Remember that
a) There is no betting, so they have to get purse money from other sources. Sponsors don't pay for everything.
b) Most American chases benefit charities.
c) Steeplechases are very aristocratic, see-and-be-seen events, and often the racing is secondary to the socializing.
d)The price is usually per car, so tailgating/carpooling is encouraged.

Nevermind. I agree that that's insane. Last year they were free, and almost all of the big racecards were available.
