Re: 2018 foals

PETA has done some good work in exposing mistreatment of food and dairy livestock, but it's like its most vocal and extreme members have become the face of the organization. When they started pushing an agenda that would remove horses from any sort of work, they lost me. Not just extreme, but pretty...

Re: 2018 Two-year-olds

When Roadster ran 3rd in the Del Mar Futurity, I thought he looked small next to his competition. It's possible that he is just a very precocious colt and that his peers have caught and passed him. Maybe he'll be back in 60 days...or maybe he's going to end up like Instagrand, getting the rest of th...

From Bloodhorse: Pegasus Card Adds Turf Race With Similar Conditions Pegasus World Cup Invitational will see purse and entry fee reduced. The 2019 Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes day in 2019 will add a turf race, which like the dirt race that enters its third year in 2019, will feature a purse...

G1 PA Derby & G1 Cotillion Saturday, Sept. 22

Parx is going to be the center of US racing this coming Saturday, with three-year-olds showcased in the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby and $1 million Cotillion for fillies. In the PA Derby, we'll get to see the return of McKinzie, who has been off since the San Felipe. The field of ten includes Hofbu...

Good Magic is done for the year; Audible is back training, with the Pegasus as the target; and Instilled Regard has been transferred to Chad Brown.

Re: 2018 Keeneland September Yearling Sale

The article said " ...he had a colic surgery as a foal." I presume that it's been a year or longer since that surgery and he is completely healed. I'm also under the impression that surgery on foals is not as serious as on an adult, since babies heal fast if they're healthy. Correct me if I'm mistak...

Thanks for the 2nd photo of sharkbite, MyLute. In that one, he looks almost black. And still a hunk.

Re: Random Retiree News

Strident (Street Cry - Storm Flag Flying)
With a pedigree like that, ending up in a Makeover program for retired horses would not have been what the breeder/owner hoped for. I presume Strident is now a gelding.

Re: Stallion News

When you say 'cooked,' are you suggesting that the effort in the race somehow harmed him physically? Has he been dealing with a lingering injury for the past 10 months, and he just couldn't recover 100% from that? Or were you thinking that the effort affected him mentally and turned him into a 'I do...

I think I'm in love with Sharkbite. What a hunk. <3
His very dark chestnut coloring appeals to me...wonder if his mane is red like his tail.

Re: Stallion News

I can understand why Spendthrift wants to give the horse a fair shot at stud. He obviously had a ton of talent, is a good-looking horse and has a nice pedigree. He's out of a MSW Dixie Union mare, and his sire, Eskendereya, has a ton of pedigree: By Giant's Causeway and out of a Seattle Slew mare wh...

Re: New Conformation Photos

These recent photos of Bandbox, Coup de Grace, Cupid and Race Day are evidence that Tapit really sires some fine-looking horses. Tapit himself is quite attractive, but IMHO many of his sons are even better physical specimens. Either Tapit improves his mares, or his stallion managers have made a fine...

Re: Hurricane Related News

Well, I didn't watch every single minute, but I never heard a word about the Endurance competition. Pretty sure NBC didn't really want to touch that subject with a ten-foot lunge whip. :P The delayed show jumping for Eventing is on tomorrow on the Olympic channel. Congrats if you have that ni...

Just watched ex-racehorse Donner, ridden by USA's Lynn Symansky, complete a clear cross-country round a few seconds under the time. Puts them into 3rd overall. :D

Re: Hurricane Related News

So far, Randy Moss has announced that the show jumping portion of Eventing has been postponed until tomorrow and that the popular Freestyle Dressage competition has been canceled altogether. It sounded like half the competitors had already performed, so this is going to going down as another Tryon C...

Re: 2018 Keeneland September Yearling Sale

Zayat went to $800,000 for an American Pharoah, #1558, and there is a photo of the colt on the linked Bloodhorse article. He looks JUST like his sire - the shape of the head, the coloring, the expression in the eyes, the ears. In what you can see of him, he's a duplicate of his dad. :D https://www.b...

I see that NBC has a two hour slot scheduled for the World Equestrian Games from Tryon International Equestrian Center this afternoon, 1 - 3 PM Pacific, 4 - 6 PM Eastern.
I'm tempted to watch just to see how NBC handles the Endurance scandal.

Re: Across the pond

I don't think so. The Prince of Wales, the 3rd leg of Canada's Triple Crown, is on dirt at Fort Erie, but since those races are restricted to horses bred in Canada, I believe they don't get a Grade 1 rating.
The G1's are run at Woodbine, on either the all-weather or turf.

Re: Winx

I know people get upset when somebody says this but man it sure would be nice to see Winx face outsiders instead of just Hartnell and Who Shot Thebarman. You mean maybe a horse like Highland Reel? I don't have the list of G1 winners she has beaten over the past three years at hand, but it's ...
