still running in SantaAnita's 8th today.
Similarly, at Suffolk Downs in the '80s there was a Mass.-bred by Last Dance-Blue Siamese named All Aroan Am I.

Re: Clever Names for horses

Up the track at FG yesterday in debut:
Smithwick, by Liquor Cabinet (Ire)

Good choice, beats Guinnness and Harp, in my opinion.

Dynamic Scoring is still racing, last finished third in a $10K claimer at Portland Meadows in mid-October. Horsty and He's a Knockout haven't been seen since last year, Horsty at Emerald and He's a Knockout at Albuquerque.

That's funny, since you may, indeed, be getting wet. ;)

Re: Across the pond

It looked like Happily was rearing/flailing and may have knocked herself against the gate sides pretty hard. The starters backed her out and then immediately sent the field on its way, so they didn't even bother to take time with a vet exam before the scratching. That's the British way of dealing w...

Re: Jockey/Trainer News - 2018

Well, for Pletcher, I guess it should be one of Florida's preps for the KY Derby. And for Baffert, one of the Southern California preps -- a dirt prep, of course. They could also rename the race at Santa Fe that Real Quiet came out of, but, oops, no more Santa Fe! I think eventually a turf race at ...

I also like names that are "themed" for lack of a better word.

For example: Real Delight (1949) -> Plum Cake (1958) -> Yule Log (1970) -> Christmas Past (1979) -> Christmas List (1995) -> Check it Twice (2005)

Or Oval (1921) -- Goose Egg (1927) -- Shut Out (1939).

Re: Horrible Names For Horses

i prefer names that aren't pedigree oriented. moscow burning - MOSCOW ballet x BURNING desire ah yes, very creative. A+. such imagination. I like names that are pedigree oriented, but take a bit of thought as well. For instance there were two fillies by Man o' War out of a mare called The Nu...

The Nazis never did get to Moscow. They seem to have had this little problem with winter.😰 They did manage to bomb it, though.
"Not much fun in Stalingrad," as "Mr. Hilter" muttered bitterly in that classic Monty Python sketch.

Re: Horrible Names For Horses

That Voodoo You Do comes from a very old Frank Sinatra song, Opry from the Grand Ole Opry. I'm really dating myself with the song. That must be from the 1950's or earlier. Yes, but how do the the sire and dam's names add up to Opry? Sinatra wasn't a country singer, and Declaration of War has no con...

Tomato Bisque (Macho Uno x Dazzling Contrast) won by disqualification at Woodbine yesterday. How is that a horrible name? I can understand, sort of, the objections to meat-related names (although I still see nothing wrong with Porterhouse, who was an outstanding runner), but how does Tomato Bisque ...

If true, I can think of a few things that might be in play here: I know SoCal is expensive, but I'm under the impression that NY is worse. Our traffic sucks but, after reading some of the posts from TBC members who live in the area, maybe NY's sucks more? :? There may be more racing along t...

FWIW, the Equibase chart caller saw "no apparent incident," just a dull performance. Also, you wrote "bucked up through the field." Did you mean "backed up"? I assume the chart caller would have noticed a bucking horse.

Three horses entered in the Iroquois Stakes today- Drunk as a Skunk c. Midnight Lute x Uqood Royal Urn c. Kantharos x Born to Royalty Hog Creek Hustle c. Yes Franco and Stevens have a lot more experience but unlike other sports, there are no intermediate steps or minor leagues. There sure are. They're called Turf Paradise, Emerald Downs, Delta Downs, Fairmount Park, etc., etc. Some outstanding jockeys still pay their dues at tracks like those before...

Re: Clever Names for horses

I nearly lost my lunch over this one. Majestic Warrior is the sire. Waveland is his dam. She is a daughter of Woodman. The colt is named Majestic Woody. You may now wipe up all the coffee that splashed on your shirt. How does Waveland fit into the equation? Her name doesn't figure into it at all, b...

Re: Horrible Names For Horses

In today's 3rd at Saratoga, there is a Point Given son named Jiggy Cheese Dog . I'd like to know what the owner was thinking. Finished last. He knows what his name is. Eric Cancel had five rides yesterday. Three were on Jiggy Cheese Dog, The Glominator and Phone Funky Munky. How does he expe...
