Re: In memoriam 2018

What Flanders said. It's easy for any of us to judge ho aren't there day in and day out with that being, human or otherwise.

Re: Saratoga Good Idea!?

Interested in this as well. It looks like construction of hockey arena at Belmont Park (?) is primary reason. As someone who's attended in the past, I may consider a shorter stay there ($) but not sure.

Re: Uh, Wrona was just fired

I don't really have a problem with either announcer but it seems like Wrona was a little blindsided. Don't know if the others (especially Mig) had a clue they weren't being renewed. I'm a Migliore fan. He's good for the game and would make a good "face of" even though he's not a race caller. SA/ Str...

Re: California mares bred to Stronach stallions...$500

Very strange. The 8yo Campsite, in foal to ShamanGhost, has a decent pedigree a little far back (Shenanigans is fourth dam, Laughter is 3rd, Ruffian's family) but can't figure out what's up. Hope someone can find something.

Re: Hurricane Related News

RE: Donner. I like to look up pedigrees etc. for OTTB when they appear in other disciplines. According to some articles I saw, Donner ran under the name Smart Gorky and earned about $2900 in six starts. According to Pedigree Query, the horse is by Gorky Park out of Smart Jane by Smarten. Fourth dam ...

Re: Loooch

OH resident here. Sad to see him go, even with some of his decisions. I think I was hoping that some of those didn't happen but I think I understand about being one of the "cool kids" in racing or not. And I'm not sure that being one of the "cool kids" is best for the game or the participants, espec...

Sounds great. I'm planning a trip for 2019, fun to all who attend, safe trips to all who race there.

Re: Sports Betting

Most states will screw this up. The odds are long established at bet 6 to win 5. But you have to be willing to take the occasional loss if you want to book bets. States don't have the appitite for any kind of loss. So they will either screw with the odds, say bet 7 to win 5, or they will chrge a co...

Re: horses with unique coloring/facial markings

Not cheap (around $200) but have you run her DNA? Not that it matters but sometimes it's interesting. I think a lot of shelters are pressed to come up with "possible breeds" and it can be nearly impossible sometimes. Also it's funny that usually it's a two-breed guess maximum! I'm tempted to run it...

Re: Golden Gate might close

Good riddance GGF and take Los Al with you. Is it just me or is this the kind of thinking that helps get racing (and a lot of other stuff, I guess) into the mess it's in? Don't know what solution there is but the endangered species eating its young analogy is unfortunately a good one. It fits well ...

Re: horses with unique coloring/facial markings

Maybe I’m just a horse geek but I find the whole color genetics topic in horses and dogs interesting. For example my lab mix Madi is three. She’s a rescue I adopted around Christmas 2014. Her body is black and white with spots. She very much has the size and body of what a rat terrier would. Her si...

Re: Old Friends

Let us know how the OF visit goes. Assuming weather holds up, it should be great. However, it's always interesting that he's always the picture of commitment and grief when one of the residents dies. Sorry for projecting my guilt complex on the world, but I wouldn't have been able to live with mysel...

Re: Old Friends

Catalina, I suspect you're correct about "non-stars' going to OF. I recently talked to someone who contacted them about taking a 20+yo daughter of Ferdinand a few years ago. She was a retired broodmare. I was pretty positive that they would talk to her about taking the mare but the person that answe...

Re: Old Friends

The incident with Kona Gold was sad. I couldn't remember if it happened overnight or early morning. I think he may have been turned out with another horse but I do recall there were questions on whether there was a night watch that patrolled the park overnight checking on the animals. It sounded lik...
