Re: Old Bones: The Story of Exterminator

I had a kid's paperback in the 60's--read it over and over. Especially touching, 'Bones' retirement with his pony Peanuts (and Peanuts 2).

Re: 2018 Two-year-olds

Hoping Collected gets good opportunities --at his best, he ran some brilliant races and should be desirable as City Zip continues to sire real runners.

Re: 2019 Graded Stakes

Question for those, like me, who were horse racing fans in the 60-70s before the graded stakes system was implemented....was there something wrong with our sport back then that got corrected? 1. Europe did it. 2. Apparently American breeders are too stupid to be able to figure out a horse's quality...

Re: 2018 Two-year-olds

Kind of sad that Game Winner didn't get a mention all afternoon! Nice run from Mucho Gusto as well; nice for MMM.

Re: Korea Breeding

I had no idea Volponi was there--or even still around! Overall that's not at all a bad roster; some of the younger ones could turn out to be very good,

Yes, Dortmund looks much less clunky in that one--it would sell me!

Re: Siblings (and offspring) of well-known horses

Kingly, who of course broke his maiden at first asking at Del Mar for Baffert, is a full brother to
Mohaymen and a half to BCJ winner New Year's Day. (Tapit x Justwhistle Dixie, by Dixie Union.)

Re: 2018 Two-year-olds

Well, Coliseum just ran 10 days ago, so it's not as if he's been absent! Roadster, now--had to wonder if he was "done" already.

Re: 2018 Two-year-olds

I had completely forgotten that Bates Motel's dam was by my first favorite, the Cal-bred T.V. Lark, who is barely hanging on in pedigrees--except for Curlin, I guess. :)

The talking heads were surprised to see Bates Motel as the damsire of Qahira--and so was I!

Re: Uh, Wrona was just fired

It's OT but I saw John Shear on duty at SA in October. Well, he was sitting on a bench, but in uniform! Stopped to chat for a minute. Wonderful guy--he let me into the paddock at Hollywood Park once to put flowers on Native Diver's grave.

"Expanded role?" Well, they're certainly getting an expanded waistline.
Now, there’s a classy blow below or perhaps at the belt.

Re: Uh, Wrona was just fired

I'm not a huge Wrona fan but what the heck did he do wrong, and if you don't ask him to be more visible, how can you criticize him if he wasn't? I bet they want someone to hand out freebies before trotting up to the announcer's station for the first race!
