Re: Stallion News

I always had a soft spot for Officer as a Cal-bred. I'm still scratching my head over Baffert running him in a Cal-bred stakes what, just a week after the BCJ? Burned out for sure.

Thanks for the info, Rugbygirl, and the photo.

Re: Siblings (and offspring) of well-known horses

I'd noticed a full brother to Mohaymen and half to New Year's Day working at Los Alamitos; name, Kingly. He's now at Santa Anita and the track workout reports list his trainer as. . .

Baffert, of course. Sigh.

Re: Stallion News

Are Officer and Successful Appeal still active? They're both tail-male Man o' War descendants too, as are their sons (e.g. J.P.'s Gusto).

Re: New Conformation Photos

For some reason when I see that photo of Stephanoatsee I think of the old breed called a "Cleveland Bay." And that isn't really a compliment!

Re: Fillies and Mares - 2018

I see Simon Callaghan is still upset about losing Abel Tasman, saying pointedly that Bellafina is the best filly he's ever had. (At least that was the Los Angeles Times' take on his comment.) So, Simon, why was it outrageous that CHC took Abel Tasman from you and sent her to Baffert, but just dandy ...

RugbyGirl--I'm interested in horses of US breeding or major accomplishments, so thank you. P.S I did a "light hiking" trip to South Island in March--great scenery, food, and wine, but if I never see another rain forest, that's fine with me! Now I'm curious, what contributed to your feelings about t...

Love Game Winner's pedigree--Candy Ride x an A.P. Indy mare, who is out of Fleet Indian IIRC. Very nice effort.

Mccallshorseracing

Maybe old news, but somebody just posted a Trevor love rant on the "Racetrackers" FB page, on a post noting opening day for the fall meeting. Name given as Matthew Cheng. Still crazy after all these years.

You got me thinking about names.
Saw the perfect name for a Secretariat offspring today.

The Crowd Roars

And it certainly did.
Well, nowadays it would do just as well for an AP offspring!

Yeah, I remember McKinzie switching is tail last year. I'm surprised Mike wasn't sensitive to that dislike--it sure didn't make him run faster.

Enough about Hofburg already. :(

Didn't a half to I'll Have Another, by AP, sell at Keeneland? And not for much of a price, IIRC.

Re: 2018 Keeneland September Yearling Sale

Yeah, I'd have taken the $1,700,000 and run--even a 2021 yearling by Tapit or MdO would be no guarantee to sell for more. But you let the dice fall wrong once, you keep chasing it. . .

Remembering my avatar

This is very personal, but 51 years ago Native Diver ran his last race before succumbing to colic 9 days later. That race was the Del Mar Handicap--then run at 9F. He carried 130 pounds and won by over 4 lengths wire to wire in 1.46.4. At 8 years old. In July he won his third Hollywood Gold Cup, 10F...
