Re: The VENT Thread

I've got a big wildfire to the west of me, and another to my northeast. Santa Ana winds are blowing hard from the north/northeast. Ugh. Cats are wondering why I've hauled out so many clothes and covered my couch with to-go stuff. I'm sleeping with my clothes on...if I sleep at all. :( Watching the ...

Re: Mendelssohn

I find, if the Coolmore team knows that they have a Camelot, Australia, Gleneagles, Minding, etc. on their hands, they race them sparingly. If the horse takes two or three starts to break their maiden, or don't immediately have that star quality then are also filed in the "run them until they win" ...

Re: Mendelssohn

Has AOB been running more of his horses on the same pattern as CoM? Namely, having lots of races over a relatively short time frame, then being off for a few months, then going back to another very busy stretch of racing. It netted CoM mostly 3rd and 4th place finishes, which doesn't sound all that...

Re: Mendelssohn

I mean, he had the most horses at the Breeders Cup, with what, 13 or 15? No wins. I'm a big fan of his, but 2018 hasn't been a great year for Ballydoyle. The yard was effected by a virus over the summer and while some horses bounced back in the Fall, they still don't seem to have many superstars. H...

Most horses would have been put down immediately, so I'd call it a racing fatality.
That's also my thought.

Re: The Melbourne Cup (G1)

Huh, so the blue tongue wasn't just me seeing things... just a damned shame all around. :( I saw some comment/speculation that CoM clipped heels with Muntahaa in front of him & that's what set off the breakdown, but I didn't see it (thank god I was looking away) and I am not about to go back and wa...

What happened?! How did this happen???
Jockey reportedly was concerned with COM's performance last race. This time round, more than one announcer commented pre-race that horse was sweating badly and seemed agitated. One mentioned COM was running with tongue tie and that tongue looked blue.

Cicatrix

Does anyone have any current news on this filly by Violence? She easily won the Glitterwoman, and then, just before the next race, the trainer announced that she wouldn't be running, that she hurt herself, and that they were still trying to assess the extent of the injury.

Re: Earthquakes, Tsunamis & Volcanos

And so, will the ash from all these eruptions (likely to remain in the atmosphere for months if not years) change our climate for cooler or for hotter? It will reduce the amount of sun light getting to the surface, but it also may restrict the amount of heat escaping from the overheating planet.

there has never been any news after his surgery. they never even said what his injury was, just that it was a structural injury in his leg. I guess the only positive is he doesn't have a death report.
Horseracing Nation lists him as retired.

What a shame about Alpha Centauri and Saxon Warrior, two very talented horses. Hope they are successful in the breeding shed.
Thankfully, at least it doesn't appear to be a life-threatening injury.

Good news. No seizure. However, I managed to spot which pill wasn't going to work quite like the Dr thought it would, called Dr B, and got told not to take it. I swear, when you know more than your illustrious cardiologist, you can make a good living with a flatfish fishing business.
Frustrating.

Carmouche likely out eight weeks with hairline fracture of femur (and very lucky it isn't worse).

RIP Chattel, it wasn't supposed to end like this.
