Chautauqua(Dwayne Dunn) refuses to jump out of barriers again this morning. He will still go down as one of the most exciting sprinters if he is retired now

Definitely worth a read, if only for the drama ;)

Mansor just sky-rocketed to #1 of my Giant F-ing Idiots list.
First, nobody keeps their “Thoroughbred makeover” horse fit by breezing it.
Second, who does he actually think he’s fooling?
Third, try riding him in a ring, working on his topline, getting him balanced, so he’s a riding horse not a racehorse.
Oh, fourth, maybe don’t own horses because you clearly don’t actually care about them.

I agree; smells like a rat to me. Does he really think we're all that naïve?

"He's too nice of a horse to just throw him out in a field, so we galloped him a couple times and breezed him yesterday—just nice and slow—and he goes to the pool two or three times a week. "

That's definitely not what your vet meant when they said to get him out in a field oh my god. All race horses need some time in a field to decompress, re-adjust, learn to be just a horse and a little more "normal" mentally. And then, what Iz said, after a few months out in a field enjoying himself, then you start teaching him about a new career and you don't even fucking need to worry about fitness or muscling for several months.
I'm livid reading all this

Eine Stute namens Danedream...

Une pouliche se nommant Trêve...

"too nice to go out in a field" my arse. There are thousands of Thoroughbred, showjumping, eventing, etc. geldings who were top class, yet managed to do just fine going out in a field, whether it be for permanent retirement or a let down period, because their owners actually care about their well being and long term health. I don't know who this owner thinks he is fooling, there are other ways to keep a horse with suspensory issues toned.

If nothing else this is proof that racehorses are not being forced to run. If a 1200lbs animal doesn't want to do something no amount of encouragement from a 110lb human will get him to do it.
