I'm surprised.

Ramsey said a few months ago that his best two year old colt would be named Bobby's Kitten after Frankel, so I guess the derby would be an inevitable goal... I can already see the NBC montage now...

Although I think the standard for Frankel tributes is set a little high right now

I think the Blue Grass should have no points towards the Derby at all.

But, maybe this is good. How many times do you really know what horse will run 15th in December.

Sound of Freedom worked 5f on dirt today at Pal Meadows. Would love to see son of War Front get to the turf and stretch out this winter at Gulfstream.

I'm keeping my eyeballs on Snowy Legacy who made his debut yesterday at WO. He was running at the restricted-Canadian level, so may not ultimately be a world-beater, but he was facing horses with slightly more experience (at least 1 prior start), had a poor start and made a nice move coming into the stretch, but weakened late, hanging on for 3rd. 7 panels is a tricky distance for some horses to debut at, so I'm interested to see what he does next out.

The track at Churchill actually is quite kind to turf/poly runners. Not saying it is the same thing but the winner of the BG should be eligible for the Derby. In fact a nice poly prep may be the key to keeping a horse fresh going into the TC. Not saying a race like the Wood should not be included but poly preps have led to more Derby winners than a dirt race like the Wood as of late, although that is likely just the randomness of racing rather that the specific track the Wood is run on.

2 of the last 7 KD's were won off the poly. Animal Kingdom (who qualified for derby based solely on poly race) and Street Sense both won the Derby off poly preps, even if they were different types of surfaces.

The very intriguing Coup de Grace runs Sunday at Gulfstream for Foxhill and Chad Brown. Right pedigree and connections for Derby. Foxhill and Chad Brown seem to have a couple nice Tapits. Guessing this one wins here and hits a few Derby lists.

Nice debut win by Midnight Hawk, Midnight Lute x. Miss Wineshine, by over 6 lengths at the tough distance of about 7 1/2 furlongs at BHP. He's a half to the quick minor SW Mayor Marv. Homebred for Mike Pegram.
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

He looks legit. I really am waiting to see another Tapit that Chad Brown has. He bought from Peter Bradley. Tapit/Muir Station. Not sure he is Foxhill but I know CB has him. Believe his name is Vaunted.

From Brisnet

Bob Baffert unleashed yet another top prospect Friday when Midnight Hawk (Midnight Lute) overcame a slow start and went on to a 6 1/4-length victory against fellow two-year-old maidens. Mike Pegram, a longtime client of Baffert, bred the juvenile but wound up selling the gray colt over dinner after a Chicago Blackhawks game. "Mike was having dinner with a couple of friends -- Joel Quenneville and Mike Tice -- when the subject of the horse came up," Baffert said. Quenneville, affectionately known as "Coach Q," is the head coach of the Blackhawks and was in Los Angeles for a game against the Kings. Mike Tice, who played in the National Football League for a number of years, is also a former head coach of the Minnesota Vikings. Midnight Hawk was named for Quenneville's team. "The colt trained really well, but I didn't think he'd win that easily," Baffert remarked. "When he broke poorly, I thought it was over. He's still pretty green. They just wanted to have some fun when they bought the horse, but now they're pretty pumped up."

Yes, that is the name, looked it up on Equineline. Looks like this one is at Palm Meadows working right now.

Honor Code will be good acid test. Guessing those two and the two out West will be the Big 4 in May. Right now give the edge to the two West Coast horses. Lot will change between now and then but like the Rome horse, then the Baffert, then HC and CDG.
