I was not a fan of Steve's do, but now I am. Old Bones posted this on Facebook -

Steve Asmussen - reason for the long locks:

In the fall of 2015, Julie Asmussen, Steve’s wife and mother of their three sons, was diagnosed with neck and throat cancer. Six months later, after a series of aggressive treatments, she scanned clean. About the same time, Asmussen was elected to the Hall of Fame.

“Knock on wood, she had a recent check and she’s 100 percent free, so we don’t have to go back for about three months,” Asmussen said.

And he is still not cutting his flowing Andrea Bocelli hair.

“It was kind of a pact we had, a symbol of her getting through it and her hair coming back,” Asmussen said. “Somebody was giving me a hard time. I said if you can make your wife happy by simply not cutting your hair, don’t you think you should?”

I'm an old hippie, so I kind of like his long hair.
Maybe the folks who are griping about his long locks are just jealous, 'cause they don't have enough hair to ever sport that 'do. :P

I’m not a fan of men who’s hair looks better than mine haha.

But that is a nifty cool story I didn’t know about.

And I still think that. I understand, applaud, and support the reason why he grew his hair, but I still think he's handsomer in his close cropped do. I can picture him in a 3 piece white suit, a black shoe string tie, a white hat with a black band slightly tipped and barely covering his eye, an ultra thin cigarillo held between his teeth, a whiff of smoke circling, a well trimmed mustache. and him holding the winning hand in a riverboat gambling salon - akin to Clark Gable.

Cool story. Hope Julie A. remains cancer-free. Not his biggest fan by a long shot but he seems very family-oriented.

I still remember that too and I still think this is the perfect description on how he looked. I don't know why but somehow the "riverboat gambler" stuck in my memory. hahaha

I have no tolerance for the man and don't how good a trainer he is. I helped bail out the tbs his family sent to the kill buyers and I will never forgive him for Nehru.

The horse in the PETA propaganda video (Nehro? or am I wrong), or another one?

PETA has no business casting stones. In the dictionary, next to the word cruelty, it says PETA.

I don't think I ever saw the original post of this, but reading this made me cackle. So accurate.

I could not get enough of his luscious locks on the BC broadcast. I'm not usually one for men with long hair, but it's so thick! So flowing!

My hair is down to my bum so I have no risk of being envious....at least for now. ;)
Not a wholesome trottin' race, no, but a race where they sit down right on the horse!
Like to see some stuck-up jockey boy sittin' on Dan Patch? Make your blood boil? Well, I should say!
