Have they decided if they were going to lengthen the run up?

They decided not to change it mid-meet, but will consider it for upcoming meets.

TVG may be showing the race, after all. Schtupp said something this morning about partnering with NBC and thanking them. I'm hoping that means that TVG gets to broadcast the race live.
Although, to be honest, I'll watch the race on NBC. Better hi-def cameras. It's the typical NBC fluff stuff that I'll skip by watching TVG's pre-race coverage.

It's unfortunate that Gun Runner seems to be amongst the few in here adversely affected by the draw. I just hope he breaks ok, so Florent can get him in a decent spot and not give the others a chance to race ride. Definitely not good, but not a death knell. I would've preferred West Coast out a couple gates too. Sharp Azteca is a nice horse but I'm not sold on the stretch out. Not sure why he's second choice on the morning line.

"She's all class. She's been real easy to be around and to train. She just goes out there and does her thing. She's a very straightforward horse," Brown said. "The most disappointing thing is only having her for one start because I can see how classy she is, a true champion. We'll try to make the best of that one start."
Sounds like he is pretty high on her. I'm hoping she'll do well, I'd love to see her go off to her date with Pharoah on a good note.

I do think Sharp Azteca at 9f is maybe stretching it but he's won at 1 mile 1/16 by 7 1/2 lengths, and at this tricky distance (for the track) and his good post position he might just be able to convert that into an upset.

From a gamblin perspective, 8/1 is simply too good of a price to pass up on WEST COAST.

A view from the magic 8 ball indicates that'll be the longest price he'll be all year en route to HOY honors at the end of 2018.

I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

He broke a 20 year old track record in that race too, but he also "towered" over the field and it was basically an exhibition. He didn't have Collected breathing down his neck. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan girl of this horse, I love the brilliant ones. I think the greatest hope is that he seems to be maturing some and is now showing an ability to stalk and it's Gulfstream. Hopefully Collected breaking next door doesn't bring out the worst in him.

I thought West Coast looked good this last week, he's a powerful, long striding kind of beast.

Question.....if the Pegasus moves to Santa Anita in an effort to eliminate a bunch of problems, including distance of the race, outside posts, on-track attendance etc. is the $30million dollar 110 foot tall Pegasus parking lot bronze sculpture part of the deal?

Haven't read up much on how he looks right now, and I know I've said it before, but I'm finding it hard not to love Gunnevera here. Probably his best course and distance, he gets Saez, and it sure looks like he'll get his pace.

Dear god, I hope not. That thing is UG-LY. I know grade-school kids who could sculpt better horse anatomy. :oops:
The San Gabriel Mountains would shrink to molehills in embarrassment if that monstrosity was placed at the Arcadia track.

An interesting note: Pegasus conditions state that runners who decline raceday Lasix allowed 7 lbs.

No one took it.

I believe only one contender took it last year (and Frank's own horse, Shaman Ghost wasn't it)

Matt Hegarty‏
@DRFHegarty

TSG was never forthcoming about the exact purse distributions in the race, so here they are, according to conditions:
$7M to first,
$1.6M to second,
$1.3M to third,
$1M to fourth,
$850K to fifth;
all others, $650K.

One of the TVG guys provided some info yesterday that the last three horses into the race, who were provided a deal in order to enter, will NOT get the full $7 million. If one of those three (Giant Expectations, Seeking the Soul & Singing Bullet, IIRC) wins, one million goes back to Stronach, who put up the money for those three. Then another three million is spread out among those who got in early with the full $1 million entry fee.
Apparently a win by one of those three rather long shot entrants would bring them a $3 million purse. TVG host also said their connections said that arrangement was 'fair.'

I am one of the happiest people on Planet Earth. My boy Gun Runner wins the Pegasus in style and goes out the champion that he is. When he shot out of the gate like a canon and Florent got him to the #2 position going into the first turn, I knew he had the race won. What a race. What a horse. You had to hear me screaming as he powered down the stretch. I could not be happier. And anyone who bet against him? Hope you have fun ripping the ticket/s. :-)

Too bad he doesn't get the all time earnings record. He deserves it.
