For some reason the Oaklawn webcam is just showing one corner of the track :(

That was... a remarkably strange race. I'm not sure what to make of it on first watch, except to say that Magnum Moon is a physical standout who may have quite a lot of talent as well.

Solomini had a great position early, looked like he was done turning for home, sort of re-rallied to get second but hit some trouble and didn't have much in the stretch. His first start on the year, but not exactly an encouraging one.

Magnum Moon lived up to the billing.

Solomini ran a good race, lost position, bumped, got clear and grinded home.

I'm starting to think Solomini is Frosted 2.0 except he isn't chasing one specific Pharoah
But from a betting perspective it is nice to have a horse that so reliably hits the exacta ;)

Didn't help Solomini that he never changed leads down the stretch. Sounded like he's had that issue before.
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

Yeah. It's even a problem in his works.
He's a tenacious sort and may win a few races, but I don't see an improving sophomore who will be a factor in the Derby.

The winner looked VERY good in more ways than one. Looks like the "Justify" of the east, and with a pedigree that's second to none.

Arkansas Derby shaping up as a good match up between Justify and Magnum Moon. MM looked like he could give J all he can handle. Really looking forward to the race. MMis a strong and handsome horse. Love that his dam is by UBS.

The time was 1:42 2/5 (or 3/5? I don’t remember). That seems pretty fast to me is that correct? The AK Derby will be an exciting match up for sure, although it is Justify who desperately needs the points.

Perhaps, but I think good three-year-olds keep a man young. ;)
Gee, I wonder who he'll pick next to ride Sporting Chance. How fortunate for Luis Saez to be riding the winner. :-)

Where was it mentioned that Justify was running in the Arkansas Derby, other than being a possibility? Imo, it wouldn't be surprising if he stays home and runs in the SA Derby and McKenzie ships out.

I would add that MM's closing fractions were very good.

per BB - Justify to Arkansas, McKinzie stays. He's been known to call an audible though. . .

When I looked at his pedigree post-race, the first thing I thought about was the very interesting article in the BH about Carrie Brodgen and her fondness for UBS broodmares.

no it is average are a little below- but the way he ran his race show he can go 1 1/8 with out a problem.

Does weight matter?
Rebel horses carried only 115 and will be picking up 11 pounds on the first Saturday in May.
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.
