Died from colic.

Such a shame, he really seemed popular in Japan.

RIP.

A fragile circle, indeed. So very sad to read this. So young.

Very sad, indeed.
Loved seeing the colt at Monmouth, Belmont and Saratoga.
RIP, Summer Bird.

Such incredibly sad news. My friends and I saw him shortly after he retired, and what a great looking horse he was. A close friend of mine adores him, and I know she will be devastated when she learns about this. RIP Summer Bird, you left us much too soon, and you will be very much missed.

I really liked this horse, I can't believe he has passed on so young. Colic truly is a menace beyond measure.

I'd love to see one of his progeny from his three books do something interesting on the track for him. Fingers crossed.
Not a wholesome trottin' race, no, but a race where they sit down right on the horse!
Like to see some stuck-up jockey boy sittin' on Dan Patch? Make your blood boil? Well, I should say!

colic seems really common all of a sudden. i'm not happy with all the losses we seem to be having lately. at least SNA is doing better, kinda balances the day out.

I loved him too - I remember having a dream before the Derby - the Bird won--thought it was him...but he sure did redeem himself and became a true champ - so sad and way too young
May they run with the WIND
