Breeders’ Cup Winner Battle Of Midway Returns To Training Due To Subfertility
Bred to 60 mares this spring, Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile winner Battle of Midway was only able to impregnate five, according to drf.com. As such, he has been returned to training at Keeneland under the care of Rodolphe Brisset, with long-term plans to return the horse to trainer Jerry Hollendorfer's barn in Southern California.
Insurance company Great American reportedly paid out the subfertility claim, taking temporary ownership of Battle of Midway. WinStar Farm and Don Alberto Stable then re-purchased the horse from Great American to put him back into training (he never left WinStar throughout this process).
WinStar's Elliott Walden said that the 4-year-old was missing a gene that impacted the fertilization process.
“This is why you buy insurance,” said Walden.

That's too bad. You hate to see such a nice son of the late Smart Strike unable to succeed as a stallion.
I wonder if they will end up gelding him? A 'missing gene' doesn't seem like the sort of thing that can be helped by meds or nutrition. :(

Blame has really turned out to be quite the filly sire hasn't he? Aside from his group I-winning daughter in Europe, Senga, stateside he has had the dual surface graded winner Fault, and good sprinters Miss Kentucky and Marley's Freedom.

Another stallion I had somehow forgotten about who seems to be hot right now is Lookin At Lucky. On the same day he had Accelerate win the Gold Cup on dirt, his other son Money Multiplier takes the Monmouth Stakes on turf on the east coast.

And his Chilean daughter Wow Cat (CHI) won the Chilean Triple Crown last year and is now training in the U.S.

Lookin At Lucky is also doing well as a broodmare sire. Possible Belmont runner Gronkowski is out of a LAL mare.

Five stakes winners—including two Grade Is and a Grade II—in a day and a half for Quality Road. . . He’s pretty good.

Given Quality Road's stud fee was 25 000$ in 2014 then 35 000$ from 2015-2017, those people got a pretty good bang for their buck I'd say.

Kingman(GB), 2011H. Invincible Spirit(IRE) x Zenda(GB), sired his first winner when his 2yo colt Calyx(GB)[o/o Helleborine(GB) by Observatory(USA)] won on debut impressively going 6F turf at AFT Fluorotec EBF Novice Stakes at Newmarket's July course on June 9th 2018. :D

The Juddmonte homebred unleashed a closing burst to earn ''TDN Rising Star'' status in emphatic style. :D :D
The son of Invincible Spirit(IRE) and Poule d'Essai des Pouliches winner Zenda(GB) is set to be represented by 113 two-year-olds in 2018.

Kingman was always my favorite horse.
And I hope that he will sire many champions!!

The videos of Forty Niner are so heartwarming. He looks amazing for his age, and looks content.

I wish more farms would exercise their stallions under tack like they are doing with Creator.

Wow - are we sure they aren't secretly prepping Creator for a second career as a dressage stallion? He has a lovely trot.

I know Shadai uses the walking machine to exercise their stallions, I don't think many farms in Japan exercise them under tack. Interesting!

Nice to see them riding their stallions at JBBA! I think Shadai lunges their stallions as well.
