Kluber, Perez, Indians beat Cubs 6-0 in World Series opener

Corey Kluber and the Cleveland Indians are off to a pitch-perfect start in the World Series.

The Chicago Cubs, meanwhile, fell completely flat in their first appearance since 1945.

Jake Arrieta flirts with no-hitter as Cubs even World Series at 1-1

Jake Arietta made a brief run at a no-hitter and ended another 71-year pause between celebrations for the Chicago Cubs and their faithful fans.

Not only are they back in the World Series, they've won there again.

Curtis Granderson fourth Mets player to win Roberto Clemente Award

Winning the Roberto Clemente Award meant a lot to Curtis Granderson. Accepting the honor in front of his parents in his hometown made the moment even sweeter for the New York Mets outfielder.

Granderson received baseball's biggest honor for sportsmanship and community involvement before Game 3 of the World Series on Friday night at Wrigley Field. Granderson is from the Chicago suburb of Blue Island and played college ball at the University of Illinois-Chicago.

Either a 108-year World Series championship drought will come to an end, or another that's lasted 68 years.

Hysteria for one fan base, more heartbreak for the other.

Mets' Jeurys Familia arrested on domestic violence charge

Mets closer Jeurys Familia was arrested on Monday in Fort Lee, New Jersey, after an alleged domestic violence incident, according to a complaint filed at the borough's municipal court.

Familia allegedly caused a scratch to the chest and a bruise to the right cheek of the alleged victim, whose name was redacted from the official complaint

ETA: Also, Go Cubs Go and all that! I'm not a baseball fan at all but there's nothing that distills the humanity of sports down to its purest state than...well, everything that happened last night. Two teams with a drought, one with a curse (lol), game seven, tied in the 8th, rain delay...etc, etc. I have shed some happy tears for "my" city today.

Outfielder Yoenis Cespedes opted out of his contract with the New York Mets on Saturday, walking away from $47.5 million guaranteed through the 2018 season to become a free agent.

Talks progress for MLB, union with lockout deadline looming

Even though a Dec. 1 deadline looms, negotiations toward a new labor deal in Major League Baseball have progressed this week, to the point where sources finally are expressing optimism that an agreement can be reached before owners impose a lockout.

Neal Huntington on Andrew McCutchen: 'We feel great about Andrew being a Pirate'

At the end of baseball’s winter meetings, the conclusion general manager Neal Huntington reached regarding the face of the franchise was this: Andrew McCutchen remains on the Pirates roster, and he’s expected to be there on opening day April 3.

“Our intent coming in here was to have Andrew McCutchen in our lineup going forward. No one changed that,” Huntington told reporters Thursday morning. “It’s unlikely someone changes that going forward. We’re certainly not going to close the door, but we’re not going to be making calls.”
