Our local media is reporting that Prince has died. There was a death at Paisley Park this am but TMZ is saying it's Prince.

So sad, he really had pure talent. I was a fan from the very early 80's, even grew up a few miles from his studio in MN. His music was a big part of the soundtrack of my youth.

The number of truly iconic musicians we have lost this winter and spring is unprecedented. :(
Prince, David Bowie, Glenn Frey, Merle Haggard, Paul Kantner, Maurice White, Scot Weiland, Lemmy Kilmister....that's going to be one helluva band playing on the Great Concert Stage Above.

This one put me in tears. Prince was my all-time favorite musical artist(and I listen to a lot of music and genres). He was only 57 and didn't abuse drugs ever so it really shocked me. My sister(nurse)said it is probably a heart attack or he had an illness he wasn't sharing with the public. Prince was an ICON as was Bowie(but he was a lot older).

Oh god I feel old today, this is the first one to really hit me, the 80's was my youth  This is the performance that came to mind for me, I remember watching it live and thinking no one will ever top this at a Super Bowl:

Google even changed their logo for him today. Purple Rain.

Seriously, WTF. I know he was in the hospital last week but they released him right after and I thought it was exhaustion/dehydration... didn't he play a show right afterward?

Unbelievable. 2016 is like the Year That Music Died.

Such an incredible loss. His Superbowl performance will never be topped IMO.

Lots of tribute pictures on Twitter.

It was such a shock to hear this. I was not a huge fan musically (mostly from lack of exposure than anything else) but his absence as a performer, human, and contributor to culture and society is just...so acutely felt. Seeing countless tributes has been heartwarming as much as it has been heartbreaking.
Not a wholesome trottin' race, no, but a race where they sit down right on the horse!
Like to see some stuck-up jockey boy sittin' on Dan Patch? Make your blood boil? Well, I should say!

Yes, this. Rolling Stone posted a clip from the RRHF 2004 induction - watch the whole thing anyway because sheesh, it's Traveling Wilburys (or most of them), but when Prince comes in at the end with the guitar solo, musical artistry aside - he made Dhani Harrison smile and then he smiled, too, and it was. Just.

This is so sad. When I was a kid 1999 was one of my favorite songs. I can still remember me and my friends dancing around the room to that song. He was such a talented musician and will be missed.

LOL War Admiral - and when I remember 1999, both the song and the year, it's with all the hysteria/fear/paranoia that 2000 was going to cause a Skynet armageddon.

But, y'know. That would've made one heck of an end-of-the-world soundtrack. 8-)

I remember when the song came out, it was so much fun and the video was on MTV all the time--and the actual year 1999 seemed so far away that it felt like I would be ancient by the time it finally rolled around

Ahh, Prince.
