Thread: Post your SECRETARIAT Photos here !

Post your SECRETARIAT Photos here !

I want to tell you all my story:

The first time I was ever at a stud farm was in 1988 when I saw Secretariat.

Secretariat raced when I was 10 years old, he was my idol. I lived and breathed Secretariat. I got the Big Red of Meadow Stable book as a Christmas gift, the Raymond Wolfe book too. My love for horse racing started with Secretariat.

So, when I saw Secretariat in the flesh, you cannot image how FREAKED OUT I was. Do any of you remember the films of girls screaming when they saw The Beatles? I remember I was shaking, at least internally if not noticable on the outside.

    I ONLY TOOK 4 PHOTOS.
    I JUST TOTALLY BLEW IT!!!

I will be kicking myself for the rest of my life, that I was in the presence of the Greatest Horse that ever lived, and I only took 4 photos of him.

    Those. Are. Treasures.

The Great One himself, and he looks like he caught sunlight in a bottle.

I really need to re-scan this pic, because it's not as bad as this scan.

Me with Secretariat in 1987. What a dork (me, not him).....

You only got 4 pics of Secretariat but they are good ones! You got to see him, that's what counts.

I got to go to Darby Dan Farm back in the mid 70's with my mom, uncle, and cousins (I was around 10) and saw Roberto, His Majesty, Graustark, and Little Current. No one got any pictures, but possibly pictures weren't allowed. I can't remember. I was all excited about seeing an English Derby winner, who was grazing in his paddock. (My family was kind of like so what, he didn't win the Kentucky Derby.)

Those were wonderful, thanks for sharing. You don't know how much you miss them until they are gone...and he was gone before he should have been. Again, thanks!
http://www.dianejacky.com Give me that short lead, give me that win by a nose, get them all home safe!

I got to see Sec right before he died. My cousin her mom and my best friend went to Kentucky for a vacation. I only got a few pictures of him too. I lost one of the pictures when I took it to high school one day when my history teacher actually brought it up that he had passed away and if any of us knew anything about him. I think my teacher was impressed that I knew as much as i did and my classmates didn't believe me until I showed them the picture of me and him. I miss that picture that was my favorite. I need to find the other ones of him that I took.

    Moonwalker,

I went to Darby Dan back in 1980. We were going to Florida to Disney World, and my Dad found out somewhere/somehow that Darby Dan was open to the public. No kidding -- they actually had a sign out front by the gate that said- Visitors Welcome.

We just drove right in, and stopped at the Stallion Barn. I was a hugh fan of Little Current too. The photos from that trip are long since gone.

Yes! They had Visitors Welcome in the 70's. The paddocks all had signs that said "Stallion Will Bite" but the grooms were friendly and would lead the horses out of the stalls in the Stallion Barn to show them off. I was intrigued that they had a horse graveyard and a big white house like Gone With the Wind. We also went to Man o' War's grave (original location, before the Horse Park was built) and some races at Keeneland (this after the Darby Dan groom assured my uncle that a visit to the horse track would not corrupt the children, LOL!)

Didn't mean to turn a Secretariat thread into Darby Dan, but I meant that you are privileged to have pictures of the Big Red guy, even if there are only four!

Thank you so much for posting those photos.
I never ever get tired of looking at him.

And I think there are many people who would agree with what you wrote here.

He is still the most beautiful horse to ever be born. Just like the book about him is called "The Horse That God Built".

He is simply the BEST. I love when people criticize his conformation pictures. They are trying to pick on the best race horse ever bred.

understandable. I personally love his bull neck! Mostly because, I have never seen a horse with such a neck and it's one of the many things that makes Sec so special and different from any other TB! Also, it's just fun to watch his races and as he comes up right next to a horse, well the difference is just amazing!

It's almost sad to see him that obese in the late 80s. I wish they would've exercised him.

There is nothing to pick on, conformation wise.
That being said, it's all too obvious where Ap Indy got his heaviness from later on in life, and he's passed that on as well.

Not just AP Indy, look at Gone West & Storm Cat. They all 3 have the same body type, at least in my eyes but I'm not a specialist or anything.
