    Chocolate Candy passes away

From the Bar None facebook page...he only just arrived there and they were so excited about him....

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden and tragic passing of Chocolate Candy after a very unfortunate paddock accident yesterday. We want to thank everyone that committed to early support of him. Bar None Ranches is aggressively exploring other stallion options to bring to Alberta for the 2012 breeding season. R.I.P. What a shame. I got to know him a little bit when he came for the Belmont, and he seemed like a cool horse to be around.

Very sorry to hear that, saw him several times. That's what the people who say how cruel racing is because horses die don't understand--horses manage to injure themselves all the time, unfortunately.
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

He was just a lovely horse to look at. And the farm had just made a deal for him to shuttle to Argentina next year, which I am thinking was a very big event for them. So this is very sad in several ways.

How very sad. He was what, five?

How many mares did he cover this year?

None, he last raced in September.

RIP Chocolate Candy; condolences to all his connections.

Of all the deaths associated with current and retired racehorses, I find the ones that are the most difficult to accept are these young horses who have retired safely from the wear of the track. You expect them to live long and happy lives on the farm, and I am in no way prepared to read about the loss of these horses in the prime of their lives.

Ugh, how absolutely heartbreaking. Condolensces to his connections and all his fans.

JT, I have to agree with you.... when they manage to retire unscathed it's so much harder to wrap my head around and accept.

They could have left the part about looking for another stallion out of the article. I mean the horse just tragically died...RIP.

I gather he had a lot of backing and bookings/support. They were reassuring their clients that they would be looking to replace him and bring in another option. Its not a big market up there and they pretty much stand the only other really decent sire around (Gilded Time). I don't think any disrespect was meant.

Well, it sounded crappy. It wouldn't hurt to wait a bit and then make an announcement. But, whatever.

Playing in his paddock when he slipped and crashed into a fence. There was snow on the ground, which may have affected his footing.
