    Pretty foal.

    Re: 2012 foals

It strikes me as funny how many of the first foals that are being announced are being born outside of KY. So far, WinStar has Quality Road and Super Saver foals (in KY). But other than that, Blame's first is in PA, Temple City's is in Ontario, and Munnings' is in NY. As was said above, I guess it's a sign of the times.

The KY Ag. committee held a hearing on the 18th about the state of the industry. Here are a couple of tweet by Janet Patton of the Herald-Leader:

"Westrom says Taylor Made just laid off 10 workers, number of mares boarding dropped from 700 in 2009 to 300 this years."

"John Greely says that in 3 years, Wintergreen lost 35% of crop on farm; horses going out of state."

At Wintergreen -- "Number of mares bred: in 2007 stallions bred to 68 mares; in 2011, that dropped to 39 mares. 43% loss."

Oh I know. And I wish the KY lawmakers would wake up to the fact that they're losing their signature industry. But they let the Standardbred industry go and don't seem to mind that the TBs are following. What strikes me as funny is that eventually, when most of the horses are gone, KY is going to have a hard time promotioning chickens (currently the #1 crop) to tourists.

    I agree, halo. Beautiful farm!

Have they been oblivious to the reduction in tax collection from sperm? They cannot be that blind unless the tax on eggs is making up the difference?

They could always say, here in kentucky our chickens really do have fingers.... and our buffalo have wings.
