    From brisnet.com

Less than 24 hours after disappointing as the 1-2 favorite in Saturday's Grade 1 La Brea Stakes, Turbulent Descent (Congrats) appeared none the worse for wear, but trainer Mike Puype plans to "check her out further in the next day or two and we'll know more."

On Fire Baby could face males in Smarty Jones

Saying she could run with anyone her age, trainer Gary Hartlage has races against males on the agenda for stakes-winning filly On Fire Baby including the $100,000 Smarty Jones Stakes on January 16 at Oaklawn Park.

I have been watching a filly by the name of Grand Entry. Won her first three, but unfortunately suffered her first defeat in the Sandpiper last out. More than likely, will go in the $100 Gasparilla at Tampa next Saturday, and she working very, very well:

Medolina (Aragorn - Melody Maiden) just won her Allowance race by 3 1/2 lengths (turf). She's in Pletcher's barn and Javier Castellano rides. She won her Maiden by 6 lengths. Promising 3-year-old here, and I really like her sire.

Awesome Maria could return to races in February

Pletcher also reported that his Grade 1 winner Awesome Maria is back in training and preparing for a comeback that could begin here next month. Awesome Maria, a homebred daughter of Maria’s Mon owned by the E. Paul Robsham Stables, won all four of her starts at 3, beginning locally with the Grade 3 Sabin and Rampart and ending on June 18 with her three-length victory in the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps. Afterwards, she was sidelined due to a condylar fracture in her left front.

“She’s doing well and hopefully we’ll have her ready for the Sabin,” said Pletcher.

The Grade 3 Sabin will be run on Feb. 25.

3yo Eden's Moon becomes TDN Rising Star with SA win today:

Kaleem Shah's Eden's Moon (f, 3, Malibu Moon--Eden's Causeway, by Giant's Causeway) ran too good to lose her Dec. 18 debut over the Hollywood Cushion Track, but had to settle for a big-figure second at 2-5. The $390,000 FTMMAY juvenile purchase, stretching out to two turns and trying the dirt for the first time, stamped herself one to watch this spring, winning off by about a dozen lengths Sunday afternoon, even after jockey Martin Garcia called it a day about a sixteenth of a mile from home. Despite this success on the main track, the winner's female family is predominatly turf, with the likes of Paradise Creek, Forbidden Apple and Wild Event under her second dam and Theatrical (Ire) a bit further down the page. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0. O-Kaleem Shah Inc. B-Bridlewood Farm (FL). T-Bob Baffert.

    From brisnet.com

Last year's Grade 2 Fantasy romper, Joyful Victory (Tapit), returns from a five-month layoff in Wednesday's 8TH race at Fair Grounds. Last seen finishing a subpar last of five in the Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks on July 23, the Larry Jones filly was diagnosed with a bone chip in her knee and underwent surgery. The injury prematurely ended a three-year-old season that had begun with such high hopes. Joyful Victory opened 2011 with an 8 3/4-length conquest of the Grade 3 Honeybee at Oaklawn, then scored by seven lengths in the Fantasy. She was compared to the brilliant but ill-fated Eight Belles in the lead-up to the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks, but didn't perform up to that level in her remaining outings. A troubled fourth in the Oaks, Joyful Victory finished runner-up in the Grade 1 Mother Goose prior to her disappointment in the CCA Oaks. The gray rates as the 6-5 morning-line favorite in her comeback, even though she will be trying turf for the first time in the about one-mile optional claimer. Her turf-savvy rivals include Grade 3-placed Bet on the Blue, who just missed in third in the Blushing K. D. over the course, and Distorted Love (Distorted Humor), fourth in the Grade 3 Cardinal two back. Beloveda (Ghostzapper) is the lone main-track-only entrant.

I'm mentioning this horse because she has one of the best name plays I've ever seen.

House of Leaves is entered to run on the 12th. Reason I like her name so much? Her sire is Read the Footnotes. If anyone here has read the novel House of Leaves by Danielewski, well...you know about footnotes.
