Thread: Mine That Bird

    Mine That Bird

I went to the open house for Mine That Bird at Double Eagle Ranch in Roswell New Mexico. A lot of people turned out. The owners and Chip were there signing autographs. It is neat that they are sharing him with the fans. And he didn't look at all affected by the parading at Ruidoso or being at the open house. He was very relaxed and was eating just fine!

Brought out to see the crowd. "Look at all the people" :cheesy:

I am shocked he is so small.

    Re: Mine That Bird

He certainly is a tiny skinny little bugger isn't he. I like him! Here's to a long prosperous career for the MTB!

Thanks a bunch for all the photos and letting us know how he did that day.

It is quite shocking to know how small he really is. I swear, I thought he was a young colt when I first saw him at Mandella's barn last year. lol I would have never dreamed he would go on to win the Derby!

He reminds me a lot of Seabiscuit. Hope he has as long of a career as Biscuit did and then finds his way to a place where all his fans can visit him.

Thanks so much for the photos! What a cutie. Love the ever-present stall-ball.

    Re: Mine That Bird

Speaking of the stall ball, did visitors to the open house witness MTB giving the stall ball a thrashing? The video of him and his stall ball was really something to behold.

You have to love a horse with an attitude like that. Thanks for posting.

    Re: Mine That Bird

I love this horse. I have to admit, not having gone to the Derby, I was really surprised to see him, his connections and how laid back they were with the horse. When a horse gets a bath with the shank just snapped on the one bottom ring on the halter ... AT THE PREAKNESS STAKES BARN ... this is BIG BIG news. LOL

He looks like he might have lost a little weight. I so wanted to see him at Saratoga, but just couldn't get there that last weekend he was there.

I don't know about this excursion to Santa Anita. It'd be nice to know what it was he didn't care for last year. Changing trainers, tracks, the shorter distance. Can't say it was really the company as he beat several of them in the Derby and looking at the field, several of them have either died, retired, shortened up or dropped off the map completely ... Elusive Bluff and Silent Valor ?? Where are they these days. (Please don't embarrass me by saying they've both become multiple G1 winners.)

I wish him all the luck. I hope he runs well in the Goodwood.

Oh, and thanks for the pics. It's nice to see where he lives and that he's appreciated.

Elusive Bluff was actually injured Gin, and was scratched from a comeback race earlier this year, so no worries

Very nice pics, and it must have been a great experience! I haven't seen him that close up, but even from the grandstands he is a really tiny horse. Love him

Not while I was there. He rubbed on it a few times but didn't play with it. He spent some time trying to reach the latch on the outside of the stall door. It was situated low and was juuuuuuust out of his reach. Due to rains the night before it was also a somewhat humid day (by New Mexico standards :grin and was getting a little hot. There was a drip of water coming off the roof just to the side of his stall door and he kept putting his head right under the drip. Guess he was trying to cool off!

I mean, come on. If that's not a horse with personality, I don't know what is. Cute.

I don't think I've ever used the word cute for racehorse before, but that little guy is pretty darn cute.
