    Fair Grounds Racetrack

I'm going to a conference in New Orleans in mid-March. I'm going to be staying in a hotel near Tulane University on the edge of the French Quarter. How close will I be to Fair Grounds? I'd like to visit if time allows.

You won't be too far. Will you have a car?

Make a point of going to the track there. FG is beautiful and always a good time. You never know what horses you may see there too. You should be able to cab it if you don't have a car rented. I wouldn't suggest walking around the neighborhood after dark, although Liuzza's by the track has some awesome food and shouldn't be missed either.

Have fun in New Orleans as well! My favorite city. Have you been before?

I've never been there before. I'm hoping I can squeeze in a trip to the track. It's an Art Conference and since I'm working on a print of Black Gold I think I can justify it. This is the first time that the conference is in a city with a racetrack which I have wanted to visit--at least when the track is actually open. I won't have a car as the conference provides shuttles to Tulane and Loyola Universities where most of the events are going to be held. I can take a cab though. Thank you all for your responses!

If you are staying around Tulane University, you are quite aways from the FQ and the F.G. The F.G. is in Mid City near City Park. You could take a cab, or you could take the ST. Charles street car to near the FQ, and take the City Park street car to near the track and you would get to see a lot of New Orleans both uptown and Mid City. Go to the F.G. as we have a lot of big races in March. I think you will like it if you are doing a project on Black Gold as he is buried in the infield and you can get to see it. He and Pan Zareta are buried near one another and you can see the markers from the grandstand. The F.G. is in the heart of town and easy to get to. Hope you come and have a real good time. I go to the F.G. all the time and just love it. I know a lot of people there after going for about 35 yrs.
