I remember Gone Goodbye racing in NY about 5 years ago. Good NYB filly. Sprinter. Sire of Gone Goodbye was Gone for Real , a stakes turf winner. GFR was sired by Gone West...who I rarely see in pedigrees any longer, and that is why I followed Gone Goodbye's racing career.
^ Gone West? You still see him in pedigrees quite a bit. He's the sire of Elusive Quality, Speightstown, and Proud Citizen. Not to mention the late Grand Slam.
^ Gone West was still alive and breeding in 2003. Grand Slam sired BC Sprint winner Cajun Beat that year. The next year Elusive Quality's son, Smarty Jones, won the Kentucky Derby. Gone West himself sired the winner of the BC Sprint that year, Speightstown.
Maybe I'm not understanding what you mean, because Gone West has never been obscure or out of fashion at any point. He always commanded a high fee, and sired good sire sons from the beginning.
^ So when you said this: "GFR was sired by Gone West...who I rarely see in pedigrees any longer" are you talking about Gone West or Gone For Real? Because the way the sentence is set up it sounds like you're talking about Gone West.

He has Brown Eyes Blue going in the 2nd at CD tomorrow.
Brown Eyes Blue became Big Brown's first North American winner yesterday! She was also one of my top sale picks in the 2012 Keeneland April Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale: http://pastthegrandstand.blogspot.co...eyes-blue.html
I souldnt be so excited by a sires first few runners, but gosh I can't help but dream that Brown is the next big thing. I feel like he could be useful and get "Big" horses when crossed with the right mares. Gosh I hope these keep coming!!
He has another entrant for 7/6 at Belmont, Copper Beeches in Race 6, a 6F turf MSW.
Brown Almighty just won his debut at Arlington -- a mile on turf. He's a flashy fella.
