Thread: Stonestreet having a contest to name Rachel's colt

    Mine was Triumvirate

def a. a group of three people (or two horses/one human)who share a position of authority or power
    b. The term triumvirate (Latin for "rule by three") or troika in Russian, is commonly used to describe an alliance between three equally powerful political or military (or horseracing) leaders ;-)

Having taken four years of Latin, I quite like this a lot. And it fits.

I think Meritage would've been perfect. Alas!

I didn't submit a name, though now I'm brainstorming just for fun...
And listening to some big out a' town jasper, hearing him tell about horse-race gamblin'.
Not a wholesome trottin' race, no, but a race where they sit down right on a horse!
Like to see some stuck-up jockey boy sittin' on Dan Patch?
Make your blood boil? Well, I should say!

That's a great name considering the colt's great big star.

Tell us about your QH. Many, many years ago, I showed QH's.

If I had remembered to enter the contest I would have submitted Alexandre Kyrlinov.

I have two that I show AQHA on the Regional level. I used to show all-around (western and hunt seat) but now I show Western Pleasure, Showmanship and Horsemanship. I'm trying to get qualified for the Amateur Select World Show and it;s tough!!

    Good luck on qualifying!

I qualified for the World back in 88' in Am. Poles. I live in the South, AND back then there were only 1 point classes (1/2 point classes now), so I really had a difficult time getting the points. Also had to travel a minimum of 4 hours to find a show that even HAD the classes I needed, so....

I did go, and ran 6th.

Congrats on your 6th place!!! My horse qualified for WP when he was a junior horse, nearly had him qualified as a senior horse...missed it by 4 points.

That's heartbreaking to miss qualifying by 4 pts. I showed AQHA years ago and it was tough then. Now, I know it's even tougher. You'll get a kick out of this - when I started showing the ladies just wore long sleeved shirts, a vest, and chaps and a hat, of course. Now the outfits are amazing. Have you any photos of you and Dunny to post???

Yea, the style have changed! I sold that dun horse years ago, I should probably change my name to HadaDunQH. Here's a couple pics from last year; my trainer showing in Halter and myself in WP.

OMG, what a beautiful head and look at that chest. He's quite a looker. How's he bred? He looks like a super mover, too. Thanks for posting the pics.

Wait, wait - Don't tell me. Before you say how he is bred, let me say that he looks like "Impulsions". Or at least "The Investor" bloodline. I was sitting in the stands at the 1989 World Show when "Impulsions" won the 2 year old Western Pleasure futurity. Also, who's your trainer. He looks like a young Denny Hassett.

PS - To all forum members - sorry we hijacked the thread for a moment. We'll drop the QH stuff.

OMG, you were there when Impulsions won! That's his sire! His bottom side is Skipper W where the "body" comes in. Sadly Impulsions died last year at a ripe age. But, man, did he throw a set of hocks on a horse!!!! Low set hocks with just a tad of sickle that puts a lot of "dig and drive" in the hind end. I'm actually suprised more racing QH breeders don't go for that lower hock set. My trainer is Bob Drake from Indiana who movedto CT. And he does resemble Denny Hasset..doesnt he? You'll have to tell me about your AQHA experiences...just PM me if you want. And ya, sorry about the hijack guys!

Re: Stonestreet having a contest to name Rachel's colt

I knew it when I saw that face. Your gelding looks exactly like Impulsions except your horse had a better body.

All the hype before the World that year was about Kay Cee Leaguer. I had never even heard of Impulsions or the McCamy's. Impulsions caught my eye immediately. In that class the judges asked "to extend the walk" (unheard of at that time) and most of the riders just looked at each other. Kelli never wavered and asked Implusions to move out at the walk. It looked like some of the riders even refused. A couple of horse broke to a jog.

After he won the class, I told my friend who was sitting with me to follow me. She asked where we were going, I told her that I want to see that horse unsaddled. I followed the McCamy's and Impulsions back to his stall. It took a long time due to the pictures and well wishers, but I got to see him. He had the strongest topline and lowest hock set I've ever seen. The name Impulsion was perfect for him.

I read a eulogy about him when he was put down last spring and Brad said that he gave two ordinary people an extraordinary life.

That's so awesome! Both Brad and Kelli showed my horse as a yearling and a 2 YO; Brad in Halter as a yearling and Kelli in 2 YO WP. I've talked to Kelli a couple times via email and she remembers my horse well!

Point taken. But if you look at her horse's sire's pedigree, you'll see Three Bars TB name all over it. Thanks for putting up with us. We'll end it......

I'm ready for some news on Rachel's foal, too.

If you want to read something really interesting, look up Three Bars. There are several articles online. He had an amazing life with so many ups and downs. He had a bizarre leg problem, had many owners, was given away at one time, was stolen and beaten, and had a companion mare that he could not live without. But most importantly, he made the modern Quarter Horse.
