Stonestreet having a contest to name Rachel's colt

I don't know how anyone is going to combine Curlin and Rachel Alexandra and reflect the legacy of Jess Jackson but that is what they are after.

I notice that the name Jess's Dream is on reserve at the Jockey Club, as is Curlin Alexander and Jess's Pride. Hmmmm....

There were a bunch of names that have been on reserve since they announced they were going to breed Rachel to Curlin. Anyone can reserve them. I know that Curlin Alexander has been reserved since then.

It costs something like $75 to reserve a name (and then you have a limited amount of time to use it.) I can't imagine anyone putting too many on reserve unless they were serious about using them.

Someone's doing it. I just looked and you have one year after reserving to use them. If you don't use them, they get released. I know some of these have been reserved for a couple years now, so someone keeps reserving them. I don't understand it though.

I am staggered at some of the names people do reserve! Sometimes I think they just do it for laughs because they are so hideous I cannot imagine anyone using them. I have not looked in a while but I just shake my head at names like "Mark's left hip"

Contest closes today. Perhaps tomorrow we could post the names we submitted and have a contest here as to what is the best name submitted.

I like that Idea. We should do a poll as well, it'd be interesting to see what people came up with.

I thought the contest didn't close until Sunday night? I could be wrong.

I submitted Vintner's Reserve. That name is not taken or (R). Somebody has reserved Vitners Reserve. They spelled it wrong. LOL.

My neighbor, who knows nothing about racing but does know a lot about wine (and drinking in general), also submitted Vintner's Reserve.

Why would your neighbor, who knows noting about racing, submit a name? For you?
Just wondering why someone would do that if they don't follow the sport.
For me, it doesn't matter if I were to win. I am disabled and wouldn't go anyways even though the drive is not that long.(Just over 6 hrs)

Re: Stonestreet having a contest to name Rachel's colt

I submitted COUP D'OEIL (koo d yah) Literal meaning - stroke of the eye.

The act of directing the eyes toward something and perceiving it visually.

The coup d'œil is a gift of God and cannot be acquired; but if professional knowledge does not perfect it, one can only see things imperfectly and in a fog, which is not enough in these matters where it is important to have a clear eye...To look over a battlefield, to take in at the first instance the advantages and disadvantages is the great quality of a general.

It's probably too literal and leaves too much room for mispronunciation and it won't be considered, I'm sure.. I just like the meaning behind it and really was stuck for something else that pleased me. General Jackson passing on coup d'oeil to the colt he envisioned.

I hope Terps wins the contest - I love CURAJESS.
