by an unraced stallion out of a mare whose family is pretty obscure. there are too many horses being produced right now. no real way to regulate it but i wish they could instate some restrictions on the breeding stock, or we're gonna keep hearing stories like this

Just nauseating news. How can people do that to horses. Breaks my heart.
    Where are my sneakers?

Well the good news is that SCTR was able to get Real Greeley and someone else got Yard Sale Slew o/o the same sale. But Speedy Legend, 1997 mare, also went to a KB.

Yes it is. Unfortunately it is pretty common.

It's a catch 22 I suppose for people. Horses are expensive to take care of, economy is in the toilet, you have bills to pay, and a horse like that nobody is going to offer to care for for free, if you don't care for it, you face jail for cruelty, and you can't take it to the local animal shelter in most places. So that is the only choice left in some cases.

i'd rather they be euth'd, but what would you do with all the bodies? dont they have free euth days sometimes, for certain horses?

How do they (sctr) decide which horses they will bid on?

This is the mentality which has created this horrific scenario.

People buy racehorses and think of them as money winning machines, not as animals which have needs, and can live a long life. It's called RESPONSIBILITY, people. Every racehorse breeder and owner bears responsibility for the horses that they own.

If they want to get involved in a sport that they can walk away from when they are finished, then they should take up tennis.

And if they want to gamble, then go find a slot machine. But don't treat a living creature like a slot machine.

But being the owner of a horse involves that person in a special relationship which does not end when the horse stops racing.

I would agree with you if the horse ran in 2012 or even the latter part of 2011. But the horse last ran in 2010. How do we know what happened in between?

The big difference between racehorses and showhorses is that racehorses are traceable. There are a lot of showpeople out there who churn and burn but the wider world never hears about it.

What do you do with the body??? You call the renderer. Yes, you have to pay for that too. But all in all, you can euth a horse and have it taken away for ~$400. If you can't afford that, you can't afford to own a horse. You can have it cremated too although costs considerably more. You can also have it shot between the eyes by the same people that will come to your house and slaughter and dress out your cows and that's considerably less than having the vet inject. It's not that hard or expensive, but it does require some effort. Those people disgust me. I hope those horses are shipping to Canada and not Mexico. . .

I hope the captive bolt operator's aim is/was good the first time fired.

And one of the saddest things is that these horses know that they're in a bad place, that things are no longer right in their world and that worse is likely to come. As it does.
