"The horse. Here is nobility without conceit, friendship without envy, beauty without vanity. A willing servant, yet never a slave." - Ronald Duncan
They do...which is what makes you wonder why someone would pick a middle aged mare out of a kill pen and fly her across country to use her as a recipient mare. It doesn't make sense at all financially or as a management decision since there are far better candidates for the foal carrying job.
Okay. So you may remember that the night SCTR wasn't able to get Norco Pal ( but did the next day, thanks to generous folk like you), they did get Real Greeley. For the whopping sum of $175.00. That was 2 weeks ago. Real Greeley, who is laidback and sweet, had his first professional photo shoot too. And, ladies and gentlemen, I think we have a star in the making:

He's a stunningly handsome fellow. My thanks to Caroline and SCTR for orchestrating the rescue.

If you have a few minutes, please send some kind and positive thoughts toward Norco Pal. He's a bit under the weather. I don't think it's anything really serious, at least yet, but he spiked a high fever + snotty nose over the weekend. Fever has come down a lot since the vet put him on antibiotics, but he still has the snotty nose, and so must remain in quarantine at the ranch.
However, at least through the weekend, he never lost his appetite! :-)
Caroline ended her post on him tonight with this: "Can I just say - and I rarely do - I am really unhappy with whoever left him at the auction lot in his condition. Getting kicked and bitten on the dealer's lot, a skinny horse fighting for food, didn't help him any either... keep him in your thoughts, thanks."

Norco Pal will be in my thoughts. No matter what the outcome, at least he is getting medical attention and affection, which is the way it should be.
And Real Greeley! What a looker. I love his expression.
I hope it isn't strangles,I've had that problem with auction horses, the poor things are in horrible shape and stressed, the strangles virus just seems to lay in wait, I lost a filly from an auction to it.![]()
oh get better soon Pal. I sure hope it isn't strangles. Poor guy
Poor baby , been through too much , hoping and praying.
I"ve searched and can't find a photo of the lovely Terpsichorist ! Until then her Daddy will represent her.
Sounds (hopefully) that Norco Pal is on the mend. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.
I'd like to smack some people upside the head for dumping him at that auction.![]()
Where are my sneakers?
Updating to say that Norco Pal is recovering now. And while there's no pretending he looks good, in this photo you can see that he's starting to get a little shine on his coat.

Glad he's on the mend. Thank you for the update.
Caroline says that Norco is out of the quarantine stall and into his own corral, of which he is very proud. ;-)

He still has a ways to go, but he looks so content in that picture, hope he continues to improve with no more bumps in the road.
