    Ambiorix/Ambiopoise

Any history buffs know much about these guys? Rarely found in sirelines these days- I don't even know if there's an active stud out there. They've fascinated me. Can't find too much info or photos though.

    Re: Ambiorix/Ambiopoise

I think I read in Blood-Horse a few months back that this sire line is still strong in either South America or Europe.
Sorry I don't remember which place.

Ambiorix sired a Champion Sprinter in Hitting Away, think it was in 66.
Too bad that this sire line isn't still in the US, this is a direct sire line to Herod.

The last remaining sire line for Matchem is the Man O'War line, thru the In Reality sire line (Tiznow).

Every other sire out there is Eclipse line.

    Re: Ambiorix/Ambiopoise

Here's a little bit about Ambiopoise with some info about his offspring as stakes winners or him as a broodmare sire-

    http://www.thetriplecrownproject.us/...hp?search=3056

You can also use that link to pull up Ambriox as a sire and his offspring that ran in the Triple Crown races

Here's a link to a photo of Ambiorix-

And though not through the sire line, Ambiorix is in the pedigree of the current talented and undefeated European Champion filly Stacelita

Ambiopoise also sired Faraway Son, a nice miler.. Anyone know anything about this fella? All I've seen is that he was rumored to have a nasty temperament.

I know he sired a terrific turf mare, Waya, which took on males successfully ...

Her name doesn't come up too often, but she was a really good one ...

His sire, Ambiopoise, I remember racing ... He was in Carry Back's crop ...

Off the top of my head, I recall him more of a router than a miler ...

    Re: Ambiorix/Ambiopoise

Very nice male lineage, my three favorite stallions. I'm a huge fan of the herod line. Pretty much dead now. Are there any male descendants around? Or is there a site with a TB family tree? I'd love to see it.

If I could pick another it would be The Tetrarch. Best 2yo ever, IMO.

I loved Waya I was new in the game and I was drawn to those fabulous grass horses like her.
She was third in the Arlington Million to Machiarmada , I remember it was televised on network TV , great race.
She ran with notable horses like It's In The Air. Pearl Necklace and Tiller to name a few.
I"ve searched and can't find a photo of the lovely Terpsichorist ! Until then her Daddy will represent her.

There's a chart/poster for sale at Horse info that shows the major sirelines in America. Here's a copy of that chart....you'll need to zoom to read some of it....

Oh, thank you. I saw this once a few years ago, and have been looking for it.

It's from 2000, though--I wonder if there's a more recent one kicking around somewhere. The Man o' War sire line looks in more trouble pre-Tiznow.

    Re: Ambiorix/Ambiopoise

Ambiorix is a favorite of mine. I love seeing him in a pedigree, and occasionally you'll see him relatively close up.

The thing that's most interesting about him to me, is his female family. They can make sires. The family has also been waking up recently, after a few generations of little noise, at least stateside (Street Hero immediately comes to mind).

His half-sister, Perfume, is often overshadowed by their other half-sister Source Sucree when discussions of foundation mares comes up, but I actually think Perfume has been more influential thru her female descendants as opposed to Source Sucree's long-term success coming thru her male descendants, as a whole.

It's also worth noting that it seems linebreeding to Perfume is having some real success.

I know you asked specifically about Ambiorix, but this family has always fascinated me. What they lack in consistency thru generations, they more than make up for in impact with their most talented descendants.

Hitting Away got a few useful horses. What I remember most about him was that he gave rise to some wonderful baseball names (Bunting, Full Swing, etc.). Somehow, though, they missed (I believe) the obvious choice of breeding him to a Nodouble mare in order to produce Solid Single. He was bred to a few Double Jay mares, and yet I don't think any of them took advantage of the opportunity. Grand Slam offers a number of possibilities today, including Ball Four, who is (alas) a gelding. I believe another son of Grand Slam, named Alke, is still entire. Personally, I'd like to see a horse named High and Tight by Alke (Grand Slam).

Thanks. That's an ad from The Blood-Horse Golden Anniversary Edition/A Second Quarter-Century of American Racing. Not so easy to come by, but a real gem loaded with old photos of accomplished but lesser-known horses:

Waya's grand daughter, Pretty Prolific was 2nd in the Test(G1) this year. Her 2yo great-grand daughter, Smart Seattle was Stakes placed at Saratoga and was entered in the Miss Grillo(G3) last weekend but was a scratch.
