Welcome back once again race fans to wild and wonderful Upside Downs, the most fantabulous race track in the history of forever!

Our feature event today, by overwhelming demand from out loyal fans, will see the return of a contest that was an overwhelming success in it's debut last season. That's right race fans, it's the 2nd annual running of The Upside Downs Steeplechase!!!

And of course we'll have a few unusual challenges for our participants to spice things up a bit. Aside from the standard fences we have four heart stopping and harrowing hellholes our brave runners must contend with!

First, the WhipperSnapper! Why should the poor horsies be the only ones to feel the cruel crack of the whip? When they pass between the walls of the WhipperSnapper it'll be the jockeys who'll have to cringe in fear as the whips lash out randomly towards them!

Next comes the Birdcage. After entering an opening into this giant cage our entrants will have to dodge whilst dashing as avian arrows of every stripe and description whirl around them, their sharp claws and sharper beaks a constant danger until the cage is cleared!

But before they have time to heave a sigh of relief they'll be confronted by the Beehive! Over 100,000 bloodthirsty killer bees packed into a dark tunnel 500 feet long!

And finally our courageous equine heroes and heroines will encounter the Fountain of Truth! Imagine pressurized jets of scalding water gushing up from below with the force of the world's mightiest fire hoses!

And before we get underway many thanks to Uncle Ted's Family Zoo for making today's festivities possible. You probably smelled it if you drove in via Route 2, so remember to follow your noses to Uncle Ted's for a great day of fun! We got the lion tamers whips, birds, bees and the giant bidet they use to wash the hippos on loan from Ted.

And the the horsies are approaching the start. The flag is up...and they're OFF!

KD steps out lively and GotaDun HQ is right with him as they go over the first fence. It's a tight pack early but now they enter the WhipperSnapper and El Prado is lashed badly, and it looks like Criminal Type got snapped in his most tender area!
Poor guy.

KD continues on the lead with Dusty and TY88 on his heels as the group hurtles the next fence, and now here comes the Birdcage! They've all gone in now and the feathers are flying! Real Quiet has been pecked! Yes, he's been pecked badly! And Tiger Dancer is besieged by a veritable flock of avian avengers! Tiger Dancer is being flocked hard!
Deep, even.
Poor girl.

Now they go over the next fence with Ruffian falling behind, and as they enter the Beehive she's the last to enter!
Now we all wait in suspense as they hurtle through the darkness! I can hear the screams of the riders as they pass through that buzzing horror, but who exactly is suffering will remain a mystery until they emerge into the sunlight!

And here they come, with KD well in the lead. That nimble warrior appears to be unmarked but the stragglers, Horse Crazy Gal and Ruffian, have been badly stung!
And staggering on behind them is Criminal Type, who appears to have taken multiple stings in his most tender area.
Poor guy.

The final fence is cleared with a mighty leap by KD, who will take a heap of beating at this point, and the strung out field approaches the Fountain of Truth! KD sidesteps the first jet of scalding water but TY88, close on his heels, is hit full in the face and knocked off stride!

It's a clear sprint to the finish now and KD strides on confidently under the line by a clear margin. Way back in 2nd is TY88 with GotADunHQ grabbing the show spot and Dusty filling out the superfecta!

Good thing we didn't have a Super5, since no one else manged to finish.

But all hail these brave and shockingly stupid competitors who inexplicably stepped forward to lay their hides on the line for our entertainment, and let's hope they live long enough to do it again next year!
