Thread: Union Rags: Kentucky Derby

    Re: Union Rags: Kentucky Derby

Real good article in today's Phila. Inquirer ( front page of newspaper again! ) by Mike Jensen. Brette explains the differences between UR and Barbaro -- Barbaro's speed was instantaneous, whereas UR's comes in gears, but he has a top gear.

Joe must want him to win so he can then piss on his parade.

PS I almost gagged when I read this line from Drape: "The sport always traffics in opinions, information and misinformation."

Union Rags may not be my pick on Saturday, but that picture is more than worthy of any winner's circle.

    From the DRF:

Union Rags was scheduled to ship back to Fair Hill on Sunday evening, after which Matz will have two decisions to make – whether to run back in the Preakness or await the Belmont and who will ride Union Rags in his next start.

“My first thought now is to say we won’t go to the Preakness,” Matz said. “It’s a long year and waiting for the Belmont makes more sense. I don’t think distance has ever been a question for this horse. In his last two races, we never got a chance to see his full stride. He probably didn’t get the opportunity to run a half-mile in the two races combined.”

Matz said he would discuss the jockey situation with the horse's owners and Brette.

Love the photo of UR relaxing back at Fair Hill. He was not my Derby pick but he has been my screensaver for months now, because he is so photogenic. I hope to see good things from him later this year.

He looks very happy, content, and peaceful. I don't think he has an aggressive bone in his body. That's what the horse lacks...that's his downfall. He needs a forceful, aggressive, Jock.

Isn't it somewhat unusual to see a horse in training in a paddock? I remember shots of Barbaro in a small, makeshift ring, after the Derby.

Cool picture! Union Rags is so physically impressive. You can see why so many people like him. Wish there was a higher rez version of this for a desktop wallpaper.
