    northern dancers stud fee

i was watching tvg and they were comparing the lexingtons stakes and they were mentioning stud fees saying northern dancers was 1,000,000 and today the highest stud fee is 300,000. i found it odd because i always thought storm cats fee was the highest.

I think for the US, SC did have the highest at $500K a pop at one point- ND was indeed at 1 Mill, I think he may hold the record for highest TB sire in the world.

You are correct. A.P. Indy was $300,000 but he was pensioned last year, Kingmambo was another who stood for $300,000 but was also pensioned recently.

    Bernardini - $150,000
    Street Cry - $150,000
    Tapit - $125,000
    Distorted Humor - $100,000
    Medaglia D'Oro - $100,000

The super high stud fees were during the early 80s.

Mr. Prospector had moved to Kentucky from Florida in 1980. He was just getting his shot at the big time when a lot of these super high stud fees were going on. His first Kentucky crop would have been 2yos in 1983. I'm sure he stood for a very high stud fee in the mid to late 80s but it wouldn't have been anywhere near a million.

The thing with Mr. Prospector and Danzig, after they got popular, their books were always full well before the season started, so they never had to advertise them.

Alydar could have commanded a high stud fee. Unfortunately, Lundy used his shares to buy other stallions, cover loans, etc.

As CC noted, I'd also heard of Slew's being $750k NG for a short time, and SC was at $500k for a good period of time.

that was my fault 300,000 was the first number to pop into my head.

That's interesting about slew and northern dancer being NG. i know saddlers wells was private for some time because of declining fertility i think i herd a rumor saying that his fee was more than storm cats and that's understandable.
