Looking at it again, seems like Paynter was given an odd ride. Anyway, probably a good learning experience. And he is a talented horse.

Hierro takes Derby Trial; Preakness a possibility

Last year it was Dominus, owned in part by Stonestreet Stable and trained by Steve Asmussen, getting beat with Julien Leparoux aboard in the desperate final yards of the Derby Trial.

If Hierro goes in the Preakness, the distance shouldn't be a problem. Hard Spun was competitive at 10 furlongs and Hierro's broodmare sire won at 11 and 12 furlongs.

I'm not so confident. His 1-10 dam's lone win came at 5.5 furlongs and his best sibling to race was Cherokee Triangle, who was at his best around 8 furlongs.

There's a reason why Asmussen has kept him short. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to be a bit more conservative and target maybe the Dwyer a la Dominus.

Saw this race at otb tonite and he looked good. The weather was awful in that area as Indidana Downs cancelled their remaining races. I thought Hierra looked like he loved the mud and slop and maybe could be nice for the Preakness.

You just bumped up a 6 month old thread to insult someone? Priceless.

I'm not sure why you put "Hall of Fame" in quotes. He is in the Hall of Fame. There's no need for the quotes. And he's 100000x more successful than you'll ever be.
Well there's lots of smart ideas in books I've never read, when the girls come talk to me I wish to hell I had
