Thread: Sentimental Derby Winner

    Sentimental Derby Winner

Sorry if this has been done, but I couldn't see a thread about it. Throwing out stats, who is your pick for the roses from a purely sentimental standpoint?

For me it's Liaison. I loved both his sire and grandsire and Charlie's death hit me hard. I would love to see him get a Derby winner and Liaison reminds me of him. Plus, Bob Baffert is my favourite trainer and I'd like to see him back in the winner's circle for the Derby.

It's Bodemeister (named after son plus the whole heart attack angle) and then Liaison completing the exacta for Bob, a turfwriters dream finish come true.

Rousing Sermon .... I'd love him to shock the world!

For me it's Union Rags. Love the big horse and have great respect for the trainer Michael Matz.

Take Charge Indy. Pat Byrne deserves it.

I think Alpha would be the horse. Kiaran has MS, the owner has helped keep racing afloat, and the horse has battled some recent ailments.

Dullahan. Picked his half brother Mine that Bird to win the Derby. Hope he follows his half brother's footsteps!

    Done Talking.

I'm a sucker for longshots anyway, but I like his connection to MD, and would love to see Ham Smith win a big one. Also, I like his name. :-)

    Also Hansen.

Love the whole Union Rags package, but he's going to be a legit favorite.

Kiaran has MS? I might have to change my mind.

    I have two.
Take Charge Indy. Love the sire and dam. Pat Byrne. Calvin Borel.
Alpha. Love his sire(and grandsire). Running style. Bred for the distance. Trainer has the same disease I have.

Dullahan and Gemologist. Dullahan for the awesome name and Mine that Bird connection, Gem because he's tough, game, and hilariously overlooked.

Kiaran shoots himself up with some drug every day. I remember reading at one point he needed a cane to walk and could barely see. I don't know much about MS but remember thinking how the heck does he train horses. Apparently the shots he gives himself work.

He's probably taking the same medication I am. I have to shoot myself every day too. It's called Copaxone. I didn't know he had vision problems and walks with a cane. The medication does not get rid of your symptoms but it is supposed to prevent and reduce future progression of the disease. Basically your immune system is confused and is attacking the myelin of your Central Nervous System.
