Optic neuritis is a mean beast. Just like Tiznow, sometimes it is resurgent and it comes back...

Can't help but root for Done Talking, besides being a local yokel he has by far the best name in the field.

Gemologist....Dullahan......Hansen.......Union Rags....... there's really only a couple in the entire field that I would be irritated if they won. x.x

I believe he was diagnosed in 1998. I found an article about him on the MS society web site. While it didn't disclose what type of MS he has or the medication he takes. It seems like they caught it early enough for the dmd to work. I have a friend that caught it early and she 'seems' fine now. I will deduce that Kiaran has RRMS and not a more progressive stage of the disease. One thing I have learned is that one case cannot compare to another. I never got optic neuritis but that doesn't mean I still won't. I just can't walk without assistance anymore and I think I will get a different diagnosis at my next appt. in Sept. I suspect I have SPMS instead of RRMS.
It's a very strange and complicated disease with no cure.

Thanks. It's been a godsend to her. It (and the mental stimulation of playing pub trivia 4x/week) have dramatically improved her condition.

    Re: Sentimental Derby Winner

Probably Copaxone daily dosing by injections. 50% of patients with multiple sclerosis will show some signs of optic neuritis that is very painful with eye movement and significantly increased sensitivity to light. That's why you often see Kiaran wearing tinted lenses, transition lenses, and very dark sunglasses.
Stress plays a big role in the disease process (muscle weakness, general malaise), and so how he is able to keep a top-tier trainer's pace and schedule is beyond me...it'd be a great story...and he did well in the limelight with Invasor...
If he is taking daily injections, it's Copaxone. They should do a story about him on national television to heighten awareness. Muscle weakness and fatigue are my biggest symptoms so far. The fatigue can be awful some days.
My wife had little to no luck with Copaxone (or Avonex or Betaseron). What has worked, really well, is Tysabri. The risk of the one awful side effect is worth it to her. The fact it's a once-monthly infusion instead of a daily shot is nice, too.
Glad to hear Tysabri is working for your wife. I suspect that I may have to change meds because my diagnosis will probably change. There is no way I have RRMS right now. I may have had it but never knew it.(I suspect I have, but that is one long story) When it goes numerous years without treatment it progresses to SPMS, which is what I suspect that I have. I will probably end up changing my neurologist too.

Not necessarily for sentimental reasons...but Gemologist. I just like this horse all the way around. While I'm not a huge Pletcher fan, I would like to see him win a KD in my lifetime....just for the sake of saying I was alive when it happened.

It's OK. We all have brain farts once in awhile. Heck, I'm the queen of brain farts. lol.
Anyways, I kinda figured you might not have a good recollection of that race if you were otherwise busy. Looks like I was right on that one.

Yea, the KD usually falls on at a time when I have a 4 day horse show, and I get pissed when I don't get to watch it! Same thing this weekend, except we aren't going because my trainer threw his back out pretty bad. So, yippee! I get to watch, wager AND pay attention! I still like Gemologist though...LOL.

My pick has to be Optimizer because of Lukas. I know people say Lukas is old and his training methods are out dated but I don't buy it. Once a good trainer, always a good trainer. It just has to do with the horses you are given.
