Hayward fired.
Hayward whining. Shouldn't have blown off that meeting with the head pol buster last summer, Charlie.

I have no sympathy for Hayward, although his firing did seem to come way too quickly.
No worries for Charlie. I'm sure his lawyers will negotiate a sweet compensation package that will make everyone puke. Lawyers will likely threaten a lawsuit, and NYRA will offer a settlement to get rid of him.
Governor Cuomo meets with NYRA Trustees -
Legislative sources said May 9 that a number of options are on the table, including reducing the current size of the NYRA board from 25 members to 15—with eight being appointed by the governor and some number of the remaining seats by the Legislature. That would put the state ostensibly in control of NYRA, which could pose its own set of political advantages and disadvantages. It would also likely affect a current contract and franchise agreement NYRA has to operate the tracks until at least 2030

And NYSRWB just went ballistic. Watch for Dan Hegarty story, but here are some quotes from a letter fired at NYRA this afternoon:
"We believe these actions are entirely inappropriate, violate regulatory standards & NYRA’s own by~laws...and neither the Racing and Wagering Board nor the Franchise Oversight Board recognize the validity of these appointments"
. . .
[The Board will be] "required to consider an Order to Show Cause to determine whether these actions by NYRA merit the revocation of its franchise."
And this from @DRFHegarty: " Letter also says that all subsidies from Aqueduct casino will cease and instead be redirected to an acct. at NYS Lottery."

Anyone running NYRA is monumentaly superior yo New York state politicos and legislature members...how about NYS repJoe Bruno convicted of corruption and selling contracts. Pedro Escada using a nys clinic for the poor as a "personal checking account...an ex-governor who persued convictions for johns and hookers while using a 4k an hour call girl... and going on a "witch-hunt" at NYRA with NO results. An ex gov Patterson awarding the NYRA racing franchise to his pals...two convicted felons.
The NYSRWB escaped any blame even that NYSRWB that board controls everything NYRA.
Cuomo is another politico on a "witch hunt" . Arrogant Hayward realized NYRA was taking 1% too much from exotic bets....but figured...hey the NYSRWB auditors should know this...THEY set the take-out rate along with everything else at NYRA.
Cuomo is just another presidential "hopeful" on a witch-hunt to destroy an easy target...Racing.
Get great headlines in the NY papers when any "alleged nefarious activity at NYRA screams in the headlines. Forget the FACT that the big NY banks can do amything to subvert laws without repercussions, Sham...entire mess.

New York desperately needs Lasix - to stop the bleeding at NYRA!
Good lord. NYRA's attorney is Brendan -- "What am I? A potted plant?" -- Sullivan.
(Um, think Ollie North and the Iran/Contra hearings some years back.)

NYRA seems to want to implode here to make a move like that that infuriated Cuomo's office. The only four words that come to mind as a perfect slogan for NYRA are, "We Don't Get It."
Only NYRA's cut of the welfare money is begin held up, for now.
