It appears that there are 57 entries for the 10 AP races on Saturday (Derby Day), and it is unofficially estimated that if there is no agreement by then, maybe 20 of the 57 will scratch.
Correction: There are nine races Saturday, not ten.

There are reports circulating in Chicago (unconfirmed) that a deal is being finalized tonight, to be announced tomorrow.
Presumably, the 20% purse reductions will be rolled back, and the CD feed will be opened up into Illinois so the tracks here can accept wagering on the Derby. Presumably, and hopefully, all the other issues are being resolved as well.
However, Arlington will still be stuck with crappy fields for opening weekend. (And hopefully the Horsemen's solidarity will have proved a point to CDI.)

Marcus Hersh is reporting on Twitter that they've signed a 2012 contract. Signals should be okay for the weekend, but the cards for the first two days will still kinda suck. (Okay, the latter is my interpretation of what he actually wrote. ;-))

It is true that a deal has been reached.

It is also true that Horesmen in California and NY were planning to pull their simulcasts from Illinois, seriously ratcheting up the pressure on AP.
One major development in this little soap opera was the effectiveness of the IL Horsemen in rallying Horsemen in other states to their cause. Going forward, that's certainly a game-changer in IL, and potentially other states. Hopefully it will give CDI (and perhaps other entities) pause before they try to unfairly bully the Horsemen again.
For the folks still a little confused on exactly what the whole dust-up was all about, Neil Milbert wrote a piece in the Tribune last night that explained it pretty well.

Bottom line: AP will be open for business pretty much as usual Friday except for extremely short fields Friday and Saturday. (In hindsight, they should have delayed Saturday's entries for one day - until today.) Sunday's fields should be very full. Plus, they will have all simulcasts this weekend.
More details of the new contract should be revealed today, but it kind of feels like, relatively speaking, a win for the Horsemen. Due in large part, I'm sure, to the solidarity shown by the Horsemen in other states. With the short fields in Chicago, and the potential loss of simulcasts from KY, NY, and CA, AP/CDI was faced with a devastating loss of product, so they finally came to the table.

He's an unusual trainer who has an awful lot of entries. He had the longshot that won the La Derby, hero of order.

Grav, have you been there for the Derby? I've been to ARL for the Million but never the Derby. Is it as crowded as the Million? Any ideas the best time to go? I know it opens at 11am Saturday, but after looking at the card, I'm thinking, why?
And I have to ask, you're name isn't Dan, is it?
Interesting story on how and why the agreement was reached.

So now that our friendly little intra-mural street brawl is resolved, it's full speed ahead for horse racing in Chicagoland! Hawthorne had a very good Spring Meeting...let's hope Arlington has a good Meeting also.
And speaking of Chicagoland, we'll be rooting for our local boy - Take Charge Indy - to bring home the Roses on Saturday. Now that the Oakster is retired, Giant Oak Nation is looking for a worthy successor. "Indy Nation" anyone?
Go Indy Go!
