    2012 California Freshman Sire Contest

    Win Acclamation's Halter, Plus $250!

Entries close tonight at 11:59 pm (Pacific) for our 2012 California Freshman Sire Contest! Sorry for the late notice here in the Breeding section, but someone recommended that I post it here as well as the other sections where it was posted earlier this week.

The Grand Prize is an engraved leather halter worn by the 2011 Eclipse Champion Older Male and 2011 California Horse of the Year Acclamation. The winner will also receive a one-year subscription to "California Thoroughbred" magazine and $250 cash, among other items.

Additional prizes for second and third place in the contest are: an autographed copy of photographer Katey Barrett's new book "The Hill" (featuring photos taken at Santa Anita) and a copy of "The Blood-Horse" magazine announcing Havre de Grace as the 2011 Eclipse Horse of the Year, autographed by her jockey Ramon Dominguez.

Participation is free. Entries are due Thursday, May 10, 2012. Good luck!

Me too. He's got some nice babies, and some buzz brewing after one of his first-crop fillies posted a :10 bullet furlong work at the Barretts March Select 2YO Sale earlier this year -- the fastest time for all Cal-breds and the co-fastest time for all fillies at the sale.

He has a Facebook page, if you want to follow him closer. Bedford's quite a charmer.
