Thread: Preakness picks?

    Preakness picks?

What are your picks for tomorrow?

I'm hedging here. My 1st list is the way I usually do things. 2nd is alternative because I noticed it looked more like the Derby played out. Just want to post them all so it's out what I might've picked, instead of not believing me if I post-race stated "I would've had that if I used the other approach..."

    Prime picks:

    Bodemeister
    Creative Cause
    I'll Have Another
Alt/4th - Went the Day Well

    2nd approach:

    I'll Have Another
    Bodemeister
Daddy Nose Best (I'd still like to see him win)
Alt/4th - Teeth of the Dog

    Re: Preakness picks?

The image of Bodemeister bursting away at the top of the stretch in the Kentucky Derby has been in my head. There's been no bounce to his ounce so far, and Pimlico smiles on speed. Still, I think he's going to be caught by I'll Have Another who simply hasn't shown any weakness. Of his two lifetime losses, he was injured in one and the other was the Best Pal where Creative Cause got the best of him (7 furlongs).

    I'll Have Another
    Bodemeister
    Went the Day Well/Creative Cause

    Re: Preakness picks?

I have to cheer for IHA - I want that Triple Crown run in the Belmont desperately. My gut, though, is telling me that Bodemeister still has some oomph left in him and that he's not going to be caught in this race.

    Re: Preakness picks?

I'll be sticking with Bodie. I think he's in good shape and the Preakness distance should be just about right for him.

    Re: Preakness picks?

Bodemeister is lone speed and it's dangerous to ignore that. However I am more impressed by I'll Have Another and, watching his PPs, he's just as fast and has just as sudden as a spurt when he wants to. I see Bode setting the pace with IHA just off him, and a duel around the far turn. Does this set up for a closer? I don't think so. No real-deal quality closer IMO to pick up the pieces.

    I'll Have Another
    over Bodemeister
Creative Cause third (he always finishes)
Went the Day Well fourth again
    Cozzetti after that.

    Re: Preakness picks?

Given Trinniberg and Hansen are not running, and a sixteenth less to run and a pace likely to be slower than 1:09 and change, Bodemeister is the most likely winner. The only down side in the three chasing him are all likely to lose less ground this time. I'll Have Another is my slight selection because he seems more intent on winning. Creative Cause ran further than anyone in the Derby, so he seems like a clever play given his odds and that he is always right there. Went the Day Well looked fantastic at the end of the Derby which was no doubt aided by the pace, but a slower pace will be balanced by far less horses between him and Bodemeister. I'm hoping for a turf-esque four-horse blanket finish. I'll be one of the few that doesn't really care how it turns out as long as it's those four.

Went the Day Well and Zetterholm across the board.
