Thread: Foals&Yearlings out of Imported Mares

Re: Foals&Yearlings out of Imported Mares

Singhalese (GB), 9yo mare by Singspiel out of Baize, won the Del Mar Oaks in 2005 and was 3rd to Cesario (JPN) in the American Oaks Stakes the same year. She was bought for $1.9m at Keeneland Nov '07 by Northern Farm and was imported to Japan. Her foals here in Japan are:

●2008: chestnut filly by Rahy (retired; unraced)
●2009: dark bay colt by Deep Impact (trainer: Sei Ishizaka who trained Vermilion)
●2010: dark bay filly by War Emblem
●2011: bay filly by Zenno Rob Roy

The 2009 colt was named Adam's Peak (Halo 3x4, ND 5x5), and sent to a horse club to which Cesario belonged. Similarly, the 2010 filly by War Emblem (trainer: Mikio Matsunaga) went to the Sunday Thoroughbred Club with her 40 shares, 650K yen each, all having sold out to general racing fans in Japan. Please have a look at a lovely filly:
    http://f.hatena.ne.jp/hs0914/20110610132302

Adam's Peak will soon be ready for racing: 'He weighs 484kg as of 15 July '11, and has been rapidly developing to a body one size larger. Having both a good sense for running and muscular flexibility, we eagerly look forward to seeing him racing.' (from the club report).

(*) Ginger Punch 2011, bay filly by Bernardini, and Point Ashley 2011, chestnut colt by Ghostzapper, were announced to have their shares available for fan's investment from the same horse club as Adam's Peak's.

This time Gaviola (USA), Cozzene x Forest Key, is my focus.

    ■progeny
    '07 by Ghostzapper (dead)
'08, grey filly, by Deep Impact (unraced)
'09, chestnut colt, by Agnes Tachyon, named Meteorite
'10, bay colt, by Deep Impact
'11, grey filly, by Zenno Rob Roy

Metrorite made her debut at Kyoto, 1800m turf, on 3rd July.

from a blog of her 'one-share' owner:
'Weight:408kg, having increased from 363kg in June. Everything is just going well, and she will be going to the Ikee Stable at Ritto. Mr Yasutoshi Ikee, 3rd in the trainer ranking in the JRA at the moment and a son of Yasuo Ikee, the trainer of Deep Impact, has been such "a fan of the dam that he had watched her three races in America, and will surely take a good care of her. I think she can be adapted to turf racing, but the debut would be not so early. " (yearling staff) '

Looks like a chip off the old block. Azeri's foals have all resembled her.

What a great looking group of yearlings! Thank you for posting the pictures, Uma.

Re: Foals&Yearlings out of Imported Mares

Wow, Ginger Punch's filly is very pretty and Point Ashley's colt looks quite sturdy. Star Parade's has her face. Think Cesario's colt might be my favorite.

    ■Singhalese 2010, f, by War Emblem:
    http://nobuteru.cocolog-nifty.com/blog/

At the bottom of the page above, you can see her photos taken this summer. Please click them to enlarge.

    ■Adam's Peak (= Singhalese 2009, c, by Deep Impact)

At Hanshin today, he won the Radio Nikkei Hai Nisai Stakes (G3), 2000m turf. This was just his second start. Congratulations to the dam's breeder and her connections in the US.

Christophe Lemaire, the French jockey, comments on the race:'An excellent colt (in Japanese)! I mean he knows how to race; he has a nice turn of foot with stamina, promising for the classic.'

    see #2

The race is for 2yos, and is no less--actually, more--competitive than the Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes (G1), the only G1 for 2yos, last Sunday. This is because the G3 is more classic-oriented in view of the course and distance than the G1, and so top 2yos tend to prefer it as a preparation for the classic races.

Winners and contenders in the race include many top G1 winners later in their careers. For example:

●Victoire Pisa (winner in '09; later won Dubai World Cup '11), beating Hiruno d'Amour and Danon Chantilly
●Logi Universe (winner in '08; also won the Tokyo Yushun '09, the JPN Derby)
    ●Vermilion (winner in '04); won 9 G1/JPN-G1s .
●That's the Plenty (winner in '02); won JPN St Leger in '03.
    ● Admire Moon (2nd in '05); a well-known Darley stallion
    ● Agnes Tachyon (winner in 2000):a top Shadai stallion, beating Kurofune and Jungle Pocket, later Shadai stallions themselves.

Re: Foals&Yearlings out of Imported Mares

Love and Bubbles (USA), 2001, b, mare

This mare raced mainly in France where she won Prix Chloe(G3) in 2004, and was imported in Japan in 2005, and now stands at Paka Paka Farm in northern Japan whose representative is an Irish breeder and veterinarian, Harry Sweeney. Meet him: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZ8_fAfbRZM)

She produced five horses at the farm:
    ● 2006: Love in the Dark, f, by Dance in the Dark; 2 wins in the JRA
    ● 2007: Win Ballon d'Or, c, by Dance in the Dark; retired due to a tendon injury after just one race, and was reported to be an a therapy horse.
    ● 2008: Hubble Bubble, f, by Deep Impact; 1 win in the JRA, 2nd in the Flower Cup (G3), 6th in JPN 1000 Guineas, and 9th in JPN Oaks. Retired last December after 5 races.
    ● 2009: Deep Brillante, c, by Deep Impact; 2 wins in the JRA, 1st in the Tokyo Sport Hai Nisai (meaning 2yo) Stakes (G3)
    ● 2010: No Name, c, by Deep Impact

Her 2nd son, Deep Brillante, has been trained by Yoshita Yahagi who 'loved him as a foal at first sight,' (DB at that time: http://uma-furusato.com/var/cache/te...894bf7598/.png ) when he visited the farm, but, when the colt was up on the ring in the Select Sale '09, his bid was unsuccessful; the bay colt was knocked down to Norther Farm.

The trainer instantly asked the bidder, Katsumi Yoshida, the representative of the farm, to have him trained the colt because he was so keen to have him in his stable. Thus the colt (at his debut paddock :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIzpAB0Vr1c) was put under his management, and 'could be a force in next year's Classics' (racing post; RPR 112) after the strong win in the G3. So you might notice his name in graded races in the spring.
