I read this article in the Vancouver Province tonight. Very cool! Ron Turcotte thinks that I'll Have Another can definitely win the Triple Crown.

To be fair to the jocks, Turcotte's TC winning Belmont is incomparable to any other Belmont, on a horse who could do twelve :12 furlongs without being asked. Sure it was easy...I can't imagine what it would've felt like to ride that animal. I bet it was the equine equivalent of a Ferrari.
And listening to some big out a' town jasper, hearing him tell about horse-race gamblin'.
Not a wholesome trottin' race, no, but a race where they sit down right on a horse!
Like to see some stuck-up jockey boy sittin' on Dan Patch?
Make your blood boil? Well, I should say!
Yes, this is definitely true, but Sec's Belmont can't possibly be Turcotte's only time in that race.
Honestly though, and I know this is only armchair jockeying, but it DOESN'T seem that hard of a race. Seems like 99% of riders with a TC on the line blow it by moving too early, while the riders who win bide their time. They seem to think that they need to turn on the burners as soon as they enter the stretch but they still have a looooooong way to go after that. Patience grasshoppers!
He's right about the Belmont though. I'm not a jockey but I would say it's by far the easiest race to ride of the 3 races. I see what he means.
Because so many of the jocks MOVE TOO SOON and if they would have some more patience and better timing, it wouldn't be so hard. But they panic. That's why I think Mario has a great chance because boy can he time his races! Hopefully he does it right at Belmont. But most of these boys have no idea what a mile and a half look like.
FWIW, I think Mario has ridden a mile and half before (I'm not completely certain, but I can verify he's ridden a mile and three-quarters). That said, once around Belmont looks a lot different than three times around Hastings.

Which is what Turcotte said in this article:
"About the Belmont," said Turcotte by phone.
"What a lot of fans don't know is this is an easy race to ride. Because it is a long distance of a mile and a half, all the jockey has to do is get his horse to relax early by taking a long hold of the reins and get them to settle down, just as they do galloping in the morning."
Turcotte has also noticed mistakes by jockeys in the Belmont.
"I've seen it a few times where jockeys going for the Triple Crown move way too soon and have nothing at the finish."
Is this not the way that Gutierrez rides IHA (the part that I have bolded)?
