Re: Breeders' Cup News - 2012

I remember hearing that Santa Anita is the best track for general admission, but I'm wondering if I shouldn't get a seat in the Grandstand so that I'm SURE to get a good spot and can go back and forth to the paddock without losing a good view of the track. I'm really, really short so I'm always worried about being caught behind people and not seeing a thing. What's the consensus on this?

Honestly, even though I have bought grandstand tickets in the past, you won't have a problem. The apron is huge at Santa Anita, and although you might end up closer to the final turn than the finish line, you will have a good view of the track. The area close to the finish line gets reallly crowded on the second day, but everything is pretty open on "ladies day." The only reason I buy tickets is to have a guaranteed place to sit down in the shade if its hot - you don't really need them for a view.

once you pick your spot and are there for a while you usually become friends with people in the same area so you can save places for each other if one or to of you leave for a while.

I'll be there only on Saturday and I am definitely not used to hot weather. Will it still be really warm in November?

Re: Breeders' Cup News - 2012

It can be pretty hot (in 2008 I think it was about 90 on ladies day, and high 80's on Saturday, but the Cup was held during October that year). It was a little cooler in 2009 when they moved it to November - moving it two weeks later did make a difference.

    1) Royal Delta: Ran full second faster than G1 older males at CD. Loves 10f

    2) Game on Dude: Returned on top of his game. 2nd in last year's BC

    3) Ron the Greek: The more distance, the better. Rock solid stayer.

    4) Successful Dan: Not sure which 'Dan' is better, but excited to see this one

    5) Wise Dan: Not surprised he came back to earth in Foster.

    6) Bodemeister: Still improving, could be tough on Santa Anita's speedy strip

    7) Union Rags: Classy 3yo a major threat if he has another fwd move in him.

    8) Paynter: Showed ability when asked to set all the fractions going 12f.

    9) To Honor and Serve: Has some things to prove at 10f, but potential is there.

    10) Mucho Macho Man: Looked great at GP this winter, but well beaten at CD.

    11) Richard's Kid: Yet another who looked good on return. Long-winded.

    12) Rogue Romance: Was live at a big price in Foster; all sorts of trouble

    13) Neck n Neck: 3yo took a big step forward in the Matt Wynn. One to watch.

    14) Endorsement: Wasn't sure who to put in 14-hole, but always liked this horse. 5-2-2-1 without Lasix.

Also eligible: Went the Day Well, Creative Cause, Alternation, Nate's Mineshaft, Nehro, ???

Royal Delta #1? I'm a big fan of hers, but she isn't the best horse in the country. Heck, away from Churchill Downs, I'm not sure she's even the best filly/mare in training.

As to the rest of the list, it absolutely stinks of "what have you done for me lately."

Right now, I think Game On Dude will win the Classic, and frankly, I don't think it'll be close. The way that horse runs, I see him winning the Classic in a relative runaway, barring an unlikely Frankel invasion. And no, I'm not joking.
Well there's lots of smart ideas in books I've never read, when the girls come talk to me I wish to hell I had

At The Races today announced a partnership agreement with Breeders' Cup Limited that will see ATR and SIS extend their exclusive UK and Ireland rights to screen live coverage of the Breeders' Cup World Championships. The agreement means ATR and SIS will retain exclusive coverage in the UK and Ireland for another three years commencing with this year's two day meeting at Santa Anita, Los Angeles, to be held on 2nd and 3rd November.

With global appeal, the fifteen Breeders' Cup Championship races carry a total prize fund in excess of $25 million and the event draws an attendance of over 100,000 racegoers. ATR and SIS will have the exclusive right to license UK and Ireland bookmakers to offer pari-mutuel bets on the Breeders' Cup linked, via partners Woodbine and TRNI, to host US pools. Total pools handle last year on Breeders' Cup races was over $160 million.

    From Brisnet

Trainer Sir Henry Cecil is looking at the Breeders' Cup for his new arrival Beauty Parlour (Deep Impact), Racing Post revealed. Ecurie Wildenstein's filly was transferred from Elie Lellouche's barn last week, and the Warren Place conditioner is looking at a mile program for the Group 1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches heroine and Group 1 Prix de Diane runner-up. "She's a very smart filly and I would see her as a miler, with perhaps the (October 20) Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II at Ascot being an autumn target," Cecil told the trade daily. "Before that, we could look at something like the (October 7) Group 1 Prix de l'Opera at Longchamp, although I haven't got that far yet. Beyond that, we would be looking at the Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita, but it's early days."

If he's looking at her as a miler, why would he possibly target the Prix de l'Opera at 1 1/4 miles?

Trainer Ed Dunlop thinks Snow Fairy might target the Breeder's Cup this year after winning the Prix Jean Romanet at Deauville yesterday. Also targeted are the Irish Champion and the Arc.

" She's about to be loaded on to a ferry and she seems alright today. She's in the Irish Champion. We'll enter her in the Vermeille, Opera, the Arc, the Breeders' Cup - whatever.
