Camelot to face eight rivals in the Derby

CAMELOT will face just eight rivals in the smallest-field Epsom Derby for over 100 years.

Three Aidan O'Brien trained runners - Father Of Science, Imperial Monarch and Tower Rock - were not declared, leaving nine runners for Saturday's Investec-sponsored Classic and making it the smallest field since 1907.
Joseph O'Brien will take the ride on hot favourite Camelot, who is bidding to follow up his victory in the Qipco 2,000 Guineas and potentially set up a rare tilt at the Triple Crown, while jockeys' championship leader Ryan Moore rides Ballydoyle stablemate Astrology.

Imperial Monarch, meanwhile, will head to France for Sunday's Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly, where he will be partnered by Joseph O'Brien.

In stark contrast to the Epsom Classic, the probable line-up for the French Derby is 20-strong, the maximum allowed. It also includes the British-trained trio of Gregorian (John Gosden), Ektihaam (Roger Varian) and Most Improved (Brian Meehan).

I really like the look of Bonfire - I will be rooting for him.

I will try and get to Epsom this weekend for the Derby, but depends on the weather and the mood of my three-week-old daughter!

It's a shame to see Imperial Monarch removed as he was a longshot I would have been interested in.

It looks like all Camelot from here.

Camelot is a worthy favourite but his odds will be too short imho. Assuming Buick doesn't ride like he thinks he's on Dancing Brave (like he did today), Thought Worthy could be close.

I really like Bonfire, they did a feature on him in Horse&Hound magazine this week, he looks amazing
