    Alex's Pal

Congratulations to Alex's Pal and his connections, and his daughter CC's Pal and her connections with her GrII win in the Vagrancy Handicap at Belmont yesterday! It's his first Graded stakes winner and I believe he has alot more to come!

Let's see, he's got an AEI of 1.23 and a CI of 0.95 ... this filly was bred in Florida, and since his ensuing Pennsylvania crops were small and probably from lesser mares you have to think that the chances of him getting more graded stakes winners in the future are greatly diminished. Wonder what the quality of mares were that he bred in NJ this year ... can't imagine they were better than the Florida mares.

He bred 7 this year, 14 last year, hmmmmm....in 2009, he bred 37 with 5 live foals reported. Thats not good.

It only takes one out of a crop now doesn't it?

Yeah, but you wrote you believed he has a lot more to come. It's too bad he was moved out of Florida, because he probably would have had a better opportunity to succeed had he stayed there. I'll bet he was moved to Pennsylvania just to take advantage of the slots-infused breeding program, but as many stallion owners have found out, the quality of mares in Pa., especially at the $1,500 level, is pretty poor. Actually, for serious breeders, his three-quarters brother Successful Appeal gives a lot more bang for the buck: 1.87 AEI, and a great chance to make money in the sales ring off a $15,000 stud fee.

I know his owner. He has backed him up with his own mares and moved him to NJ to help boost the states' breeding program. He knows that the stallion is priced for those that breed to race, not for the sale ring. Personally, I hope he goes on and does great things for his owner who is a nice man.

I guess it only matters that a stallion lives in KY in order to have good mares and to be productive. I'm glad when outside stallions show that top horses don't have to come from KY.
