I said nothing about "risky" (i.e non-safe) turf course.
It has to do with the crapshoot that mile races on a tight 7f course with turns can turn out to be given the traffic problems one often encounters. Only a fool would risk tarnishing his race record in such a race.

Read above, Arkle was faster, that's a valid reason. Really tight turns, 2 of them. With the stride of his he would probably go and grab a hot dog on the grand stand side. It wouldn't matter anyway, cause I have no doubt he would win. But how boring would that be.

Because it would prove nothing at all, we already know he's the best miler in the world. So if they would make the trip to the US: it would only be for the Classic. And I actually like that they think that way.

Better watch out for all the Court Vision's of the U.S.

You're the one who used the word risk in your first post.

The crapshoot that is the BC Mile at Santa Anita was not enough to stop Goldikova (twice), Lure, or Six Perfections, all very quality milers that are nowhere near Frankel's league.

Traffic? Really? You're talking about a European horse having trouble with traffic? That's hilarious.

Re: Anywhere to watch Frankel's race online today?

All pretty moot -- Sir Henry said it's "highly unlikely" Frankel will go to the BC this year.

Everything I've seen of this colt, he'll stretch out well, won't he?

He travels so effortlessly, and when the button gets pushed, he's got that acceleration that very very few horses ever have.

Not only that, but it seems like it takes him another mile to pull up. He's so full of energy after the race that I don't think he's pushing his upper limit at a mile.

I think he'll go longer just fine.

It is not a crapshoot. It would just be a bad decision because of: a) "oh why didn't they run him in the Classic, do they fear the competition" and b) if he doesn't win it cause he has trouble handling the two tight turns (monster stride, used to straight courses), it would tarnish his reputation. So it makes no sense to run him at all in the turf mile and it could be named "risky" to run him there.

They would only race him in the Classic, but that won't happen either, because he is not targeting this race at all.

@horsebagger: I have no doubt at all, that he will stretch out with no problems.

I am certain of one thing, Frankel is far and away the best horse in the world, and it isn't even close for second, he is one truly special horse. I hope the great Bobby Frankel is smiling from above, one heck of a namesake bestowed on him.

    Ditto to that !

Frankel's breeders must have seen how special this horse was from the get-go...to name him after the late, great Bobby Frankel

    Ditto this!

This horse gives me goosebumps when he runs!

Do you ever have anything nice to say about this horse? Or about Black Caviar (apart from her only beating donkeys)?

Nobody said he can't handle turns at all. But if you compare the shoebox turf race tracks in the US to the wide, huge Euro race tracks you should be able to understand that there is quite a difference. It's just another factor that plays into the reasoning why starting him in the mile is just bad all around. His stride + 2 tight turns on a small course = bad combination. And then there's also the traffic problem (see Goldi's last start in the US for example) which is caused by those tight turns and the narrow track. And apart from that people will say that they are ducking competition. And he wins it by 5 lengths or something... what did he gain from it? Nothing at all.

Aren't you the one who always says horses always have something left to prove on the track? So why are you so uptight about their reasoning to say "no way for the mile, if we would come over it would be for the Classic, cause that suits his running style the best and he has nothing to gain with winning the mile".

It would not make ANY sense to run him in the mile. If you still can't comprehend what I and Arkle mean, then I can't help you (although I agree Arkle's wording was a bit confusing probably).

    >He came, he saw, he conquered. Again. Frankel was at his irrepressible best as Sir Henry Cecil's superstar made a mockery of another Group 1 field to extend his unbeaten sequence to 11.<

ETA: And he was born on the 11th ... Feb. '08! [smile]

2nd ETA: “It looks like he’ll stay a mile and a quarter, he’s in the Eclipse, Sussex Stakes and Juddmonte, we’ll feel our way and he’ll tell me what to do.”

“It’s very unlikely he’ll go for the Breeders’ Cup,” Cecil added.<

Excelebration held on to second by a neck over the late-closing Side Glance, with the German raider, Indomito, another length back in fourth. Final time for the eight furlongs was 1:37.85 over the good to soft going.

Kurenai, SOS comprehends just fine. Contrary to your belief, she is far from lacking in the intelligence department just because she questions decisions or what Frankel's beating. It's easy to get swept up in the euphoria of a very good horse and lose some objectivity and perspective. SOS, as far as I can see, is just trying to look at things objectively and unemotionally.
BTW, why don't they give the times in these races??? If they did, I didn't catch it.
