That's very sad. She was a good racemare, and just as good a broodmare.

I wonder what type of cancer took her life?

That's a good question, because she was in foal.....in late June. The breeding couldn't have happened more that 5 months ago. Her cancer must have been fast onset and very aggresive because I can't believe they would have bred her if they had any idea that this horrible stuff was building in her.

God Bless her. She was really very special.

Too sad. I was there in '93 at the BC and no winner that day was greeted in the WC with as much honest to goodness fan support, joy, and happiness. She was the crowd favorite along with Lure.

So sorry to hear this. She was quite the race horse and a good producer as well. That BC Distaff is one of my favorites.

Very sad to hear of her passing. And It's sad this thread hasn't received more responses. It's Hollywood Wildcat, for crying out loud.

I'd be daft and say "who's that" but it'd be insulting to the poor mare. Indeed, RIP to Hollywood Wildcat and her unborn foal.

I did not know her, but appreciate what others have said.

I remember her well. H.W. was a great horse. I was there in 1993 at H.P. for the B.C. I saw her run several times and she was outstanding. So sorry to hear about her death. It's so sad about her and her foal. She will be greatly remembered by me and many fans that saw her run. I just loved the 1993 B.C. at H.P. She was at the top of her game back then. I sure do remember her and loved her very much. RIP HOLLYWOOD WILDCAT

I hope not. Breeding a 22 year old mare with cancer...I would hope no one would ever do that on purpose/knowing about the cancer. Ugh makes me sick thinking about it.

    RIP

RIP Hollywood Wildcat. I'll never forget her stretch battle with Paseana. I was rooting for Paseana and when Eddie dropped the whip on Hollywood Wildcat I thought she might get there. The next year she didn't like the Churchill Downs track, I remember her jockey talking about it in a post race interview. She was a really nice versatile mare who could easily transfer her form from dirt to turf. She had some thrilling battles with Flawlessly as well. I found it thrilling when War Chant got up to win the BC Mile.

Check out some of the mares she raced against:

Wow does that list bring back some memories. That was when ESPN had the weekly horse racing recap show with, I believe his name was, Chris Lincoln. I loved that show.

There is no way that Irving Cowan had Hollywood Wildcat bred if he knew she was sick. She was, I believe, the only horse he kept when he dispersed his horses after his wife died.
