Actually, the family members are darker than the photo shows - some color was lost through the
tiny pic process. The coat color shown on both Tiff & Joey are pretty much what they'll be when they mature. Their sire, Spirit, is even darker than Joey.
Ridgebacks are not small dogs. AKC classifies them as large, guard hounds.
Full-grown, Tiff should weigh 70-75 lbs. and Joey a good 10 lbs. more. I'd say that both will max out in height - Tiff 25" - 26" and Joey at 27" at the withers.
Took them to the vet on Thursday - Joey weighed 19 lbs. and Tiff 17. I'm sure they've gained 1/2 - 1 lb. since then. They're both a load to pick up.
Bill gave Tiff a small, empty GATORADE bottle to play with. It rolled the the barbecue. She laid down and tried to reach it with her paw. She couldn't. She got up and walked around to the back of the barbecue and was able to reach the bottle. Our jaws dropped at this 9 wk. old puppy figuring this out. We thought maybe we should take her back to her breeder as she may turn out to be smarter than us.
People underestimate the importance of an animal having intelligence. The best show dogs are smart dogs - they know what's going on and they sell themselves, and performance dogs learn quicker, do better, and love what they're doing when they have some extra smarts.
We don't think we have the speed and agility to get around the Agility rings, so we'll probably do lure coursing and obedience with them in addition to conformation showing when they get older.
The Ridgeback National Specialty show is in Orlando, FL in November. They'll be 1 week shy of being able to compete in the regular classes (6 months minimum), but they have a fun puppy class for 4 - 6 month olds, so we'll enter them in that.
Joe and Tiff meet
