Thread: Historical stud fees?

    Historical stud fees?

Is there any where online to see or look up what a stallion stood for in a specific year? For example, I know what Dynaformer stood for in 2012 -- but I'm pretty sure he wasn't $150k in 2004. I'm just doing some research and am interested.
And listening to some big out a' town jasper, hearing him tell about horse-race gamblin'.
Not a wholesome trottin' race, no, but a race where they sit down right on a horse!
Like to see some stuck-up jockey boy sittin' on Dan Patch?
Make your blood boil? Well, I should say!

If you need any years before 2001, I probably have a Stallion Directory from that year, it might take me a bit to get back to you since they aren't all out. I have most years from 1983 to 2010.

Looking at that was crazy. Storm Cat at $500k and A.P. Indy at $300k. Plus Kingmambo at $225k and UBS at $125k. That brought back the past! That was when I was just starting to get into racing.

It is mind-boggling isn't it? 500k, 300k, 225k.....crazy stuff! I think those days are over for a good long while at least.

Thanks guys! I was looking at that, but it only seems to show it in jumps - when you're looking at 2004 it shows the 2000 stud fee, when you're looking at 2005, it shows the 2003 stud fee, I think. But it's helpful! And yes, mind boggling. x_x

Does anyone know what Dynaformer's all-time lowest posted stud fee was, before he got big?

I think he started around $5,000.

Northern Dancer went for million per cover. and Galileo stands for 450k-800k

    Re: Historical stud fees?

Dynaformer's story is even better than that: he started his stud career at Wafare Farm near Lexington for $3,500, not $5,000.

I guess there isn't a database where you can look up "historical stud fees" huh? That would be really cool to sort through and compare.

I have never heard of Crow(FR) or Hawaiian Sound. I had to look them up. I would guess that a great number of stallions were listed as private.

Those are just advertised fees though. Northern Dancer wasn't listed in 1980 and Alydar wasn't listed in 1985.
It always amazes me to see the number of stallions each farm stood in the 80s.
